Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin Inaugurates New “Chief Minister’s Mini Sports Complexes” in Multiple Constituencies

Chennai : The Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin, inaugurated four newly constructed “Chief Minister’s Mini Sports Complexes” in the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni (Chennai), Sholavandan (Madurai district), Karaikudi (Sivagangai district), and Tirunelveli (Thoothukudi district) assembly constituencies. Each complex was built at a cost of ₹3 crore, totaling ₹12 crore.

The inauguration event was held near the Government Women’s College in Chennai, under the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development. Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports infrastructure and encouraging young athletes.

As part of the initiative, the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni mini sports complex was inaugurated, featuring:

  • A state-of-the-art gymnasium with modern fitness equipment
  • A 400-meter synthetic track
  • A hockey field with floodlights
  • Two cricket practice nets

Additionally, through a virtual ceremony, Udhayanidhi Stalin also inaugurated newly constructed sports facilities in other districts:

  • Sholavandan (Madurai district) – A 200-meter running track, open basketball court, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho fields, and a long-jump pit with a pavilion.
  • Karaikudi (Sivagangai district) – A 400-meter running track, open basketball and volleyball courts, kabaddi and kho-kho fields, a long-jump pit, and a spectator gallery.
  • Tirunelveli (Thoothukudi district) – A 400-meter running track, a football field, volleyball court, long-jump pit, and a spectator gallery.

Dignitaries Present at the Event

The grand occasion was attended by Hon’ble Ministers including Thiru. K.R. Periyakaruppan (Cooperatives), Thiru. Anitha R. Radhakrishnan (Fisheries and Animal Husbandry), and Thiru. P. Murthy (Revenue and Registration). Other notable attendees included MP Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran, MLAs A. Senguttuvan (Sholavandan), Oorvasi C. Amir Raja (Tirunelveli), M.C. Nirmalakumar (Ottapidaram), and S. Mankudi (Karaikudi), along with local government representatives, sports officials, and young athletes.

This initiative marks a significant step in developing sports infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, encouraging local talent, and boosting sports culture across the state.
