Vocational education to begin in 700 Higher Secondary Schools across the state

Efforts are underway to implement every aspect of the new National Education Policy 2020 through the School Education Department in the state. The new policy emphasizes how Indians can contribute to the rapidly growing global economy. With the rising population, ensuring employment opportunities aligned with individuals’ education, skills, and aspirations remains a significant challenge. To address this, the School Education Department is prioritizing vocational education in government schools.

The School Education Department has submitted a proposal to the Education Department of the Central Government to introduce new trades and job roles in 700 higher secondary schools in the upcoming academic session. These trades are designed to align with skill development of the 21st-century. Currently, vocational education courses are offered in 2,383 schools, and with the addition of these new institutions, the total number of schools providing vocational education in the state will exceed 3 thousand. The courses will emphasize advanced agriculture, while new job roles such as mason assistant, construction painter, assistant designer, fashion, housekeeping, office administration, and management will be introduced under the construction trade course related to dairy development.

Currently, the courses being offered in classes 9 and 10 include Data Entry Operator, Junior Field Technician, Assistant Beauty Therapist, Retail Store, Operations Assistant, Private Security Guard, Food and Beverages, Service Assistant, Micro Finance Executive, Assistant Plumber, Sewing Machine Operator, Four Wheeler Service Assistant, Electronic Service Assistant and Physical Education Assistant. The courses that have been given priority in classes 11 and 12 include Junior Software Developer, Solar Panel Technician, Drone Service Technician, CCTV, Footage Operator, Floriculture, and Self Employed Tailor.

Vocational education to more than 4 lakh students

At present, vocational education is being imparted to more than 4 lakh students in 2383 schools in the state. Arrangements have been made to train more than 4 thousand 700 teachers in various subjects to impart vocational education. The Directorate of Public Instruction has also directed the District Education Officers to do extensive publicity regarding the vocational education being conducted in the state.
