Sweden’s Candela Company to Implement the Pilot Project

Mumbai : The anticipation surrounding Mumbai’s e-water taxi service is about to end, as India’s first e-water taxi is set to launch in the city. Sweden’s Candela Company will implement the eco-friendly water taxi pilot project, with directives from Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane to expedite the service. The instructions were given during a meeting with Sweden’s Consul General, Sven Östberg.

During the meeting at the Mantralaya, Minister Rane and Consul General Östberg discussed the e-water taxi initiative, accompanied by Östberg’s advisor, Saloni Jhaveri, and senior officials.

Minister Rane emphasized the increasing burden on Mumbai’s transport system and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s strong push for the early launch of the e-water taxi service. The pilot project will operate on two key routes: Gateway of India to Elephanta and Gateway of India to Alibaug, helping ease the city’s traffic congestion. He urged Candela Company to prioritize passenger safety, environmental sustainability, and affordability while implementing the service. The state government will ensure that the company receives the necessary permits without delay.

Consul General Östberg expressed Sweden’s keen interest in developing Maharashtra’s ports and confirmed that Candela Company will present a detailed proposal before launching the pilot project.
