Judge’s Cash Claim Absurd; Parliament Discussion Demanded: Sanjay Singh

The discovery of bundles of cash worth crores at the residence of a Delhi High Court judge has sparked a political storm, with senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh directly questioning the credibility of the judiciary. In a scathing critique, the AAP Rajya Sabha MP asserted that it is not just currency notes but the judiciary’s integrity that is going up in flames.

The AAP Rajya Sabha raised concerns about potential corruption influencing recent judicial decisions and dismissed the judge’s explanation as laughable. Calling for urgent parliamentary discussion, Sanjay Singh demanded the judge’s resignation, arguing that a fair investigation is impossible while he remains in office.

Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, commenting on the discovery of cash bundles at a judge’s residence, said, “I believe it is not just bundles of cash that are burning, but the credibility of the judiciary itself. The Indian judiciary has immense powers and complete independence in delivering judgments. However, in recent years, many rulings have come under scrutiny. It is possible that behind some of these decisions, financial transactions and corrupt practices are at play.”

The AAP Rajya Sabha MP further added that there is no proper mechanism to investigate judicial corruption, and multiple restrictions exist when it comes to probing corruption allegations against judges.

Sanjay Singh further stated, “This is the first case to have come to light, and even this was revealed accidentally. The fire broke out, the fire brigade arrived, and only then was this matter exposed. This incident must be taken seriously. Various details are emerging, including claims that this money belongs to a senior retired judge who is reportedly close to the sitting judge.”

“It is also being suggested that this cash is linked to a case-related transaction. Therefore, to uphold the credibility of the judiciary, it is essential to uncover the truth. This stain on the judiciary must be erased, and for that, a thorough investigation is necessary,” he added.

Sanjay Singh stated, “We have also demanded a discussion on this issue in Parliament with the Chairman’s approval because this is not a minor matter. Bundles of cash worth crores have been found in a High Court judge’s residence. The judge’s explanations are utterly ridiculous. His justification sounds like a joke from a comedy show—nothing more.”

The AAP Rajya Sabha MP asserted that when ordinary citizens are found with even a single rupee, the government is quick to take extreme action against them. But when bundles of cash are recovered from a judge’s house, mere explanations hold no value.

Sanjay Singh concluded, “The judge must resign. As long as he remains in his position, an impartial investigation is impossible. If a sitting High Court judge continues in office, which agency can investigate him, and how can a fair probe take place? Whether or not cases are assigned to him is a separate issue. But since crores of rupees have been discovered at his residence, at the very least, he should step down until the investigation is complete. Therefore, his resignation must be secured.”
