Thrilling Last-Over Finish: Delhi Capitals Edge LSG by One Wicket

Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals pulled off a sensational one-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 4 of TATA IPL 2025 at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. In a high-scoring thriller, DC successfully chased down 209, marking their highest-ever IPL run chase.

The hero of the night was Ashutosh Sharma, who played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 66 off 31 balls. His fireworks overshadowed stellar performances from Nicholas Pooran (75 off 30) and Mitchell Marsh (72 off 36) for LSG. Debutant Vipraj Nigam’s quickfire 39 off 15 proved crucial in DC’s dramatic finish.

Opting to bowl first, DC faced an aggressive start from LSG openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Marsh dominated the powerplay, smashing a 21-ball half-century as LSG raced to 64/1. Pooran then took charge, hammering 25 runs off a single over from Vipraj Nigam. His brutal hitting, including four consecutive sixes off Tristan Stubbs, propelled LSG past 100 in just 8.1 overs.

However, DC fought back with Mukesh Kumar dismissing Marsh for 72. Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant spell (2/20 in 4 overs) turned the tide, removing Ayush Badoni and running out Shardul Thakur. Despite late sixes from David Miller, LSG ended at 209/8 in 20 overs.

DC’s chase started disastrously, losing three wickets for just seven runs. Axar Patel (22 off 11) and Faf du Plessis (29 off 18) tried to rebuild, but wickets continued to tumble. Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma added a vital 48-run stand before Stubbs fell. Debutant Vipraj Nigam then played a fearless knock, keeping DC in the hunt.

With 42 needed off 24 balls, LSG spinners clawed back, dismissing Nigam and Starc. But Ashutosh Sharma kept DC alive, smashing Ravi Bishnoi for 6, 4, 6 in the 18th over to bring the equation to 22 off 12. In the penultimate over, Kuldeep was run out, leaving DC with just one wicket and 18 runs needed off nine balls.

In a tense final over, DC survived two missed run-out chances. With five needed off four balls, Ashutosh sealed the victory in style, lofting one straight over the bowler’s head. His remarkable innings secured one of the most thrilling finishes in IPL history.

Scoreboard : Delhi Capitals 211/9 in 19.3 overs (Ashutosh Sharma 66*, Vipraj Nigam 39, Tristan Stubbs 34; Shardul Thakur 2/19) beat Lucknow Super Giants 209/8 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 75, Mitchell Marsh 72; Mitchell Starc 3/42, Kuldeep Yadav 2/20) by one wicket.
