President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly and extended her congratulations to the people of the state on their 25-year democratic journey. She praised the exemplary parliamentary traditions upheld by the Assembly. She credited the establishment of Chhattisgarh to the visionary leadership of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and paid her respects to him. Highlighting the state’s democratic journey, she called it an inspirational example of public aspirations.
Sharing her experiences as a legislator, she emphasized that serving as a public representative is an honor for those committed to public service. She described the Assembly as a custodian of culture and a key policy-making institution.
Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly: A Model of Parliamentary Discipline
President Murmu commended the disciplined and dignified traditions upheld by the Chhattisgarh Assembly. She particularly appreciated the rule of ‘self-suspension’, highlighting the historic fact that no marshal intervention has been required in the Assembly in 25 years.
She lauded Chhattisgarh as an embodiment of women’s power and paid tribute to the state’s cultural heritage. She recalled the contributions of Mini Mata, an iconic female leader from Chhattisgarh, and honored her legacy. She noted that the state currently has 19 women legislators, and the number of female voters surpasses male voters. She urged women legislators to play a leading role in empowering other women and called for the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Act) at the grassroots level.
Chhattisgarh’s Policies Towards an Inclusive Society
President Murmu described the 565 bills passed by the Chhattisgarh Assembly as historic steps toward inclusive development. She specifically highlighted legislation that abolished social evils and protected women from regressive practices, calling it a significant contribution of the Dr. Raman Singh government.
A State Rich in Natural Resources and Boundless Potential
President Murmu emphasized that Chhattisgarh has immense developmental potential in mining, industry, and agriculture. She stressed the need to balance environmental conservation with progress, noting that Chhattisgarh’s traditional folk arts are appreciated worldwide.
The state is blessed with lush forests, waterfalls, and natural treasures, as well as major rivers like Mahanadi, Hasdeo, Indravati, and Shivnath. She urged policymakers to ensure that Chhattisgarh advances on the path of modern development while preserving its environment. She also called upon all public representatives to connect every section of society with this journey of progress.
Decisive Progress Toward Ending Left-Wing Extremism
President Murmu highlighted that efforts to integrate Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected individuals into the mainstream have reached a final and decisive phase. She expressed confidence that Chhattisgarh will soon be completely free of extremism, marking a historic milestone for the state.
Social Harmony Through the Principle of ‘All Humans Are Equal’
Quoting Guru Ghasidas Ji’s message, “Man is equal to man”, President Murmu emphasized the importance of social equality and harmony in shaping an ideal Chhattisgarh. She praised the Chhattisgarh Assembly as a model democratic institution and wished for the state’s bright future. She urged all public representatives to work with dedication toward building a prosperous and united Chhattisgarh.

Governor Ramen Deka described President Murmu’s presence at the Silver Jubilee event as historic and inspiring. On behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh, he extended a warm welcome to her. He recalled Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s visionary leadership, which led to Chhattisgarh’s formation, and noted that the state government has declared 2025 as ‘Atal Nirman Varsh’ (Atal Development Year), prioritizing infrastructure development.
He described the 25-year journey of the Chhattisgarh Assembly as one of pride and achievement.
Governor Deka also praised the ‘self-suspension’ rule adopted by the Assembly as a remarkable example of discipline and democratic integrity, calling it a model for legislatures nationwide. He lauded the Assembly as a platform for fulfilling public aspirations and commended its policies for strengthening the state socially, economically, and culturally.
He highlighted that ongoing efforts for rehabilitation and development in Naxal-affected areas are successfully integrating tribal communities of Bastar into the mainstream.
Chhattisgarh’s Journey from Mineral Wealth to Industrial Powerhouse
Governor Deka credited Chhattisgarh’s leadership for making it a leading producer of steel and energy in India. He noted that the state’s Assembly currently has 19 women MLAs, representing 21.11% of total members, calling it an excellent example of women’s empowerment.
He paid tribute to Chhattisgarh’s historical, cultural, and spiritual heritage, remembering Mata Shabari, Guru Ghasidas, Swami Vivekananda, Veer Narayan Singh, and Mini Mata. He noted that Swami Vivekananda spent a crucial part of his youth in Chhattisgarh, shaping his spiritual growth.
He emphasized that the Silver Jubilee year brings new energy and collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to uphold Chhattisgarh’s identity as ‘Chhattisgarhiya Sable Badhiya’ (Chhattisgarh is the Best). He called for a vision of equal opportunities, inclusive prosperity, and cultural dignity to build a developed and progressive Chhattisgarh.
