It is now clear that PM Modi deceived Delhi’s women by making false promises in name of guarantee: Atishi
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sat in protest outside the Delhi Assembly on Monday, demanding answers from the BJP over its unfulfilled promise of providing ₹2,500 to women. With banners questioning the delay and loud slogans echoing through the streets, the demonstration turned into a direct confrontation over the BJP’s failure to deliver.
At the forefront, senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, slammed the government, reminding them that Delhi’s women are still waiting for the money they were assured. The Prime Minister himself had set 8 March as the deadline, yet not a single rupee has reached their accounts. As frustration mounts, the question remains—will this promise ever be kept, or was it always meant to be just another jumla?
LoP Atishi, held PM Narendra Modi accountable for his unfulfilled promise to Delhi’s women. She said, “It was not AAP but PM Modi who set the date of 8 March for depositing ₹2,500 into the accounts of every woman in Delhi. The date has come and gone, but not a single rupee has been transferred.”
She asserted, “This proves that PM Modi lied to Delhi’s women. He deceived them in the name of guarantees. AAP will raise this issue in the Assembly as well. Delhi’s women do not want empty assurances—they want the ₹2,500 that was promised to them.”
Meanwhile, senior AP leader and MLA Sanjeev Jha slammed the BJP for backtracking on its promise. He said, “The Prime Minister had assured that his first Cabinet meeting would approve the ₹2,500 scheme and that every woman would receive the amount before 8 March. Instead, on 8 March, they merely formed a committee. How many times has this committee met? What decisions have been taken? When will the money be disbursed? No one knows.”
The senior AAP leader added, “Women are coming to us, asking when they will receive their ₹2,500. It is now our responsibility to hold the BJP accountable. It is shameful for the country that its Prime Minister has been exposed as a liar. What’s worse is that his own party and Cabinet are working to discredit his promises. Until the BJP fulfils its commitment and transfers ₹2,500 to women’s accounts, AAP will continue its struggle from the streets to the Assembly.”
On the Delhi budget, Sanjeev Jha called on the BJP to deliver on its electoral promises. He said, “The BJP came to power with a long list of promises. We want to see them fulfill those commitments in this budget. They had assured free gas cylinders on Holi and Diwali, but Holi has passed, and people have not received free cylinders. The budget must allocate funds for this.”
He continued, “The BJP had also promised to continue all public welfare schemes initiated by the previous government—so why are Mohalla Clinics shutting down? There must be a clear budget provision to keep them running. Women are not receiving pink tickets in buses anymore, and we demand that the budget include free pink tickets for women and free travel for senior citizens. Instead of playing the blame game, the BJP should use this budget to honour the promises made to the people.”
Senior AAP leader and MLA Kuldeep Kumar also criticised the BJP for failing to deliver on its promised honorarium for women. He said, “The BJP itself announced the date for transferring ₹2,500 to women. 8 March has passed, the Delhi budget session has begun, the Cabinet meeting has taken place—yet women have received nothing. They are still waiting, asking us when the money will be credited. What answer do we give them?”
He concluded by saying, “PM Modi’s so-called ‘guarantee’ is turning out to be just another ‘jumla’. He promised ₹2,500 per month for women, but time is slipping away, and not a single rupee has reached their accounts. We are here to demand answers—when will women finally receive the ₹2,500 that was promised to them?”
