Inauguration of Three Public-Centric Portals by the Labour Department
A Significant Step for Construction Workers and the Boiler Industry
Mumbai – In a major step towards labour welfare and administrative simplification, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, inaugurated several digital portals. The event was attended by Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde, Labour Minister Adv. Akash Fundkar, Cultural Affairs & IT Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, Industries & Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant, Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal, and senior officials from the Labour Department.
As part of this initiative, three key digital platforms were launched:
- Cess Portal of the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (MBOCW)
- Boiler Manufacturing Management System (BMMS) of the Labour Department
- DigiLocker service for boiler examination certificates
A Digital Revolution for Labour Welfare
Principal Secretary of the Labour Department, I.A. Kundan, highlighted the benefits of these new systems. The Cess Portal will streamline cess collection across Maharashtra, ensuring better fund mobilization and enhanced benefits for registered workers. Meanwhile, the BMMS platform will provide an end-to-end online system for boiler manufacturers, boosting industrial growth.
Additionally, it was announced that successful candidates in boiler examinations (engineers and attendants) will now receive digital certificates via DigiLocker, enhancing transparency and ease of verification.
Approval in Principle for Labour Pension Scheme
A presentation on a proposed pension scheme for workers aged 60 and above was also made during the event. CM Fadnavis granted in-principle approval and directed officials to develop a detailed SOP for implementation.
Labour Law Reforms
CM Fadnavis emphasized the importance of reforming the Mathadi Act and the Private Security Guards Act to align them with modern requirements. He also appreciated the Labour Department’s initiatives under the 100-day program.
These initiatives mark a new era in Maharashtra’s labour welfare, as the government leverages digital technology to enhance services and improve the lives of workers across the state.
