Kerala Council of Churches Backs Waqf Amendment Bill

The Kerala Council of Churches expresses its strong support for the Central Government’s introduction of the much-anticipated Waqf Amendment Bill. The existing Act contradicts the principles of natural justice and the core values enshrined in the Constitution.

The removal of sections such as 40 and 108A from the current Act is highly commendable, as these provisions were unjust and failed to uphold the secular fabric of the nation. We urge the Central Government to ensure the swift passage of the Amendment Bill to bring relief to thousands of people suffering in places like Munambam. Only a legal amendment can provide a lasting solution to their hardships.

We also call upon Members of Parliament from all opposition parties to extend their support and help pass this historic legislation unanimously.

Dr. Prakash P. Thomas
General Secretary
