Royals Rampage: Jaiswal and Archer Shine as RR Crush Punjab by 50 Runs

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) put on a clinical show to register a dominant 50-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 18 of TATA IPL 2025 at the New PCA Stadium, New Chandigarh. Powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stylish 67 and a fiery 3-wicket burst from Jofra Archer, RR handed Punjab their first loss of the season while notching up back-to-back wins of their own.

Electing to bowl first in their maiden home game, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer hoped to capitalize on early conditions. But RR’s top order had other plans. Sanju Samson, back in charge as full-time captain, joined forces with Jaiswal to stitch a fluent 89-run opening partnership, their best of the season.

Samson’s 38 off 26 was laced with flair before Lockie Ferguson broke the stand in the 11th over. Jaiswal shifted gears after a cautious start, bringing up his fifty in style with a boundary and a six off Yuzvendra Chahal. He eventually fell for 67 off 45 to Ferguson, but Riyan Parag took the baton and powered RR past 200 with a blistering 43 off 25 balls*, aided by Dhruv Jurel’s 13 off 5*. RR finished at 205/4, the first team to breach 200 at the venue.

In response, Punjab’s chase never took off. Archer struck gold with the new ball, dismissing Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer in the very first over. Sandeep Sharma removed Marcus Stoinis soon after, reducing PBKS to 26/3.

A brief resistance came through Nehal Wadhera (62 off 41) and Glenn Maxwell, who added 88 runs for the fifth wicket. But Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga derailed the momentum with back-to-back wickets, including Jurel’s stunning diving catch to remove Wadhera.

The final overs saw PBKS unravel. Suryansh Shedge, Marco Jansen, and Arshdeep Singh all fell cheaply as Rajasthan’s bowling unit sealed the deal. Archer returned to dismiss Arshdeep, capping off a 3/25 spell and earning Player of the Match honors.

RR’s emphatic win lifts them to seventh on the table, while PBKS slip to fourth, left to reflect on a game where the Royals simply ruled.
