Accelerate Growth Hub Projects for Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s Development – CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to expedite the implementation of various Growth Hub projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to boost its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to $300 billion by 2030. These projects form a crucial part of the MMR Growth Hub strategy aimed at accelerating holistic regional development.

CM Fadnavis chaired a meeting of the MMR Growth Hub Regulatory Board today, which was attended by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Dr. Shirish Sankhe, and other senior officials from various departments.

Chief Secretary Saunik gave a presentation on the progress made so far under the Growth Hub initiative. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of sectors like tourism, industry, urban development, housing, and environment in driving MMR’s growth and called for world-class execution of the identified projects. He recommended regular monitoring of project progress via a dashboard and suggested integrating these projects into a war room for better oversight. A dedicated team will also be formed to address challenges arising during implementation.

The Growth Hub Report was prepared in September 2024, and since then, eight meetings have been held at various levels. A total of 37 projects, 8 policies, and 19 government decisions have been initiated, which will be executed by seven key institutions.

Major projects include the IICCT at Goregaon Film City, which is expected to attract international studios, and special development zones in Mumbai’s western suburbs. Other key initiatives cover the MBPT land development, Worli Dairy redevelopment, Anagav-Sape region development, Kharbao integrated business hub, and the Boisar, Virar, and Thane area development. Additionally, projects under the hub include a multi-modal transport plan for Vadhavan Port, world-class data centers, industrial townships, health cities, affordable housing for the poor, and tourism-driven projects.

CM Fadnavis stressed the need for timely execution of these long-term, sustainable, and globally benchmarked projects. He also called for effective promotion of the Growth Hub at the upcoming “Waves” event in Mumbai through a compelling presentation.

Chief Secretary Saunik shared updates on the joint report by NITI Aayog and the Maharashtra Government and noted that Maharashtra’s model has received praise in national-level conferences. She added that the Prime Minister has advised placing greater emphasis on sectors like tourism, industry, urban development, and housing, while also focusing on the development of peripheral areas around MMR.

The meeting also included discussions on MMR’s economic blueprint, key decisions taken, the status of major projects, tourism ventures, and central-state coordination.
