“Safeguarding Mumbai: Chief Minister Shinde Leads Efforts Against Landslides”

Mumbai : “Our priority is to safeguard citizens’ lives by installing safety nets in Mumbai’s landslide-prone areas, aiming for a landslide-free city,” Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced. He also mentioned that a policy on dangerous buildings would be formulated in collaboration with MHADA, Municipal Corporation, MIDC, and other government bodies. Bringing back Mumbaikars who have moved out of the city is also a top priority.

Chief Minister Shinde visited Hanuman Tekdi in Asalfa village, Ghatkopar district on Wednesday afternoon to inspect safety nets and other protective measures on the hill. MLA Dilip Lande, Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Commissioner Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, along with Deputy Commissioners Ramakant Biradar and Devidas Kshirsagar, were present during the inspection.

During his visit, Chief Minister Shinde interacted with local residents to understand their issues. He later briefed the media about the inspection at Hanuman Tekdi.

Shinde mentioned that a survey of Mumbai’s areas prone to cracks had identified 31 such locations. He emphasized that advanced Swiss technology is being employed to securely install safety nets up to eight meters deep into the rocks at these sites. The goal is to prevent any landslide incidents across Mumbai.

Referring to a tragic landslide in 2001 that claimed 72 lives at Hanuman Hill, Shinde underscored the importance of preventing such incidents citywide. Drawing parallels to safety measures on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, he assured enhanced security for residents.

To address citizen concerns directly, Shinde visited Hanuman Hill around 3 p.m. and observed firsthand the newly installed safety nets designed to mitigate landslide risks. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of thousands of families residing in the area.

Chief Minister Shinde’s direct trek up the steep hill, despite its challenging terrain, demonstrated his personal commitment to overseeing the safety initiatives.
