Sanskrit Must Be Viewed Through a Modern Lens, Says Lok Sabha Speaker – Students Urged to Plant Trees and Promote Sanskrit and Indian Culture: Governor
Jaipur ” Governor and Chancellor Shri Hari Bhau Bagde stated that Sanskrit is not just a language but the mother of India’s rich culture and moral values. Speaking at the 7th Convocation Ceremony of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University on Thursday, he emphasized that universities should focus on nurturing good human beings through education. As part of Guru Dakshina, he encouraged students to plant trees within university campuses to foster a lifelong bond with their alma mater.
Governor Bagde urged collective efforts to preserve Sanskrit and Indian culture. Highlighting ancient Indian contributions, he referenced Bharat Muni’s Natyashastra, noting that Lord Shiva’s Tandava dance and other artistic expressions reached the masses through the Sanskrit language. He also cited scholars like Aryabhata and Bhaskaracharya, emphasizing that Bhaskaracharya had formulated the principle of gravity centuries ago, explaining the mutual attraction between celestial bodies and Earth’s gravitational pull.
Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, also present at the ceremony, emphasized the need to expand Sanskrit’s reach and make its knowledge accessible to the public. Calling Sanskrit the mother of all languages, he urged the university to highlight its scientific nature from a modern perspective. He noted that many great Indian thinkers and sages composed their works in Sanskrit, forming the backbone of Indian cultural and intellectual heritage.
Sanskrit Education Minister Shri Madan Dilawar said Sanskrit is the root of all ancient languages and should serve as a foundation for modern science and knowledge. Swami Avdheshanand Giri, head of the Juna Akhada, underscored the importance of disseminating the wisdom contained in ancient Indian scriptures. He expressed gratitude upon being awarded the honorary Vidya Vachaspati title.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramsevak Dubey presented the university’s progress report and welcomed all dignitaries. Governor Bagde and Speaker Birla also released a special edition of the university newsletter ‘Pravruttiḥ’ and conferred the honorary title upon Swami Avdheshanand Giri during the event.
