Government Committed to the Success of ‘Cataract-Free Maharashtra Mission’: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai : The government has prioritized the health of citizens by implementing a wide range of healthcare initiatives. One such initiative is the ‘Cataract-Free Maharashtra Mission’, which aims to eliminate cataract-induced blindness among the elderly. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the government is fully committed to ensuring the success of this mission. He also appreciated the proactive support extended by Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), calling it commendable.

Launched in 2017, the ‘Cataract-Free Maharashtra Mission’ seeks to address the issue of blindness caused by cataracts. The mission was revitalized in 2018, and WCL has been actively supporting this initiative in Vidarbha by collaborating with Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC), Nagpur. Over the past year, IGGMC has performed approximately 4,000 cataract surgeries with WCL’s assistance.

In line with its agreement with the state government, WCL will continue to support the mission by conducting around 4,000 surgeries annually for the next three years across Vidarbha. The organization plans to organize medical camps in rural areas, identify patients suffering from cataracts, transport them to hospitals, and ensure they receive free treatment. Additionally, WCL will help hospitals by providing the necessary infrastructure.

Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed confidence that the visible commitment shown by WCL would inspire other voluntary organizations to join hands with the government in making the mission a success.
