CM Devendra Fadnavis Unveils Logo for Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Platinum Jubilee Year

Nagpur : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today unveiled the official logo marking the Platinum Jubilee (Amrit Mahotsav) year of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The unveiling ceremony took place at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat at Hyderabad House.

Present at the occasion were Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singhal, NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Nagpur Improvement Trust Chairman Sanjay Meena, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, NMC Additional Commissioner Smt. Vasumana Pant, Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Dhumal, and logo designer Vivek Ranade.

Founded on March 2, 1951, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has been dedicated to public service under the motto “Paur Jan Hitaya” – for the welfare of the people. The Platinum Jubilee year officially began on March 2, 2025. With this milestone, the newly unveiled logo will now be used in all official correspondence and administrative functions of the NMC.

To commemorate the Amrit Mahotsav year, NMC has planned various activities and initiatives. It also intends to honor the legacy of great leaders and contributors to the city’s development.

In 1951, the state appointed G.G. Desai as the first administrator of the NMC. Under his guidance, the first municipal elections were held in June 1952, leading to Barrister Sheshrao Wankhede becoming the first Mayor of Nagpur.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis himself has served as Mayor of Nagpur twice. Other prominent leaders who have held key positions in the NMC include current MLAs Krishna Khopde, Praveen Datke, Vikas Thakre, and Sandeep Joshi, who have served as Mayor or Deputy Mayor.

Over the years, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has seen the service of 54 Mayors, 56 Deputy Mayors, and 50 Commissioners. As the second capital of Maharashtra, Nagpur once operated under the C.N.C. Act of 1948. Now, a unified legal framework governs all municipal corporations across the state. Notably, former NMC Commissioners J.S. Saharia and Manu Kumar Srivastava went on to become Chief Secretaries of Maharashtra, while several other former commissioners continue to hold high-ranking positions within the state administration.
