Chhattisgarh Will Play a Leading Role in Effective Implementation of New Criminal Laws: Vishnu Deo Sai

Review Meeting on Criminal Laws Chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah

Raipur : Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at North Block in New Delhi today during a high-level review meeting on the implementation of three new criminal laws. The meeting, chaired by Mr. Shah, also included discussions on eliminating Naxalism, holistic development of Bastar, and strengthening the state’s law and justice systems. Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma, senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, and the state government were present at the meeting.

Discussions focused on the implementation and current status of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). The review also covered new provisions related to police, jails, judiciary, prosecution, and forensics.

Chief Minister Sai informed the meeting that Chhattisgarh has completed both administrative and technical preparations for the smooth implementation of the new laws. The state has developed and enforced 27 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines, and has already trained approximately 37,385 police personnel. Police stations, courts, and jails have been equipped with e-evidence and video conferencing systems. So far, 53,981 FIRs have been registered under the new laws, with charge sheets filed in nearly 50% of these cases.

A special strategy was also discussed to find a permanent solution to the Naxal issue. The CM shared that recent operations in the state have resulted in the killing, arrest, or surrender of several wanted Naxals. Initiatives like the Niyad Nellanar Plan, Bastar Olympics, women’s safety centers, and the promotion of homestays and tourism infrastructure in tribal areas are helping to meaningfully integrate youth into the mainstream.

He further emphasized the state government’s commitment to making Chhattisgarh Naxal-free by 2026 and to developing Bastar as a premier tourism destination in India.

CM Sai also assured that Chhattisgarh would faithfully adhere to all directives of the central government and play a leading role in implementing legal reforms across the country.

Home Minister Amit Shah praised Chhattisgarh’s initiatives and emphasized the need for 100% implementation of the new laws at the earliest. He stressed that the objective of the new legal framework is to make the justice delivery system simpler, faster, and more citizen-centric.

The meeting was also attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, DGP Arun Dev Gautam, Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Pingua, IG Sushil Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to the CM Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary Rahul Bhagat, Principal Secretary (Law) Rajneesh Srivastava, Home Secretary Neha Champawat, and other senior officials.
