WAVES 2025: A Beacon Leading India Toward an Artistic Future

India’s media and entertainment industry is rapidly evolving—not just as a reflection of the country’s rich cultural influence but as a powerful force gaining traction on the global stage. In this context, WAVES 2025 (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit), being organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, emerges as a landmark event. Scheduled to be held from May 1 to 4, 2025, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, the summit aims to showcase India’s creative brilliance, technological progress, and cultural diversity on a global platform.

WAVES 2025 is not merely a summit; it is the heart of India’s visionary ‘Create in India’ initiative. Through this event, India is attempting to globalize its creative content across various fields like arts, literature, music, cinema, animation, gaming, webtoons, and anime. The primary goal is to transform India into a global content hub—blending creativity with cutting-edge technology, entrepreneurial capabilities, and international competitiveness.

One of India’s most defining strengths is its cultural diversity, which is vividly reflected in every form of entertainment—films, music, theatre, folk art, storytelling, and modern-day digital creations such as animation and gaming. WAVES 2025 will present this cultural richness to the world. The summit focuses on the “Create in India” campaign, which aims to provide a global platform to India’s local arts, talent, and innovations.

Under WAVES 2025, the ‘Create in India Challenge – Season 1’ has been launched, inviting young artists, writers, animators, game developers, and musicians from across the country to participate. The competition spans 25 unique categories, including webtoons, manga, anime, electronic dance music, and game design. This initiative opens doors for local talent to gain national and international recognition.

WAVES 2025 also emphasizes content security, alongside celebrating creativity. In today’s digital era, content piracy and theft are major challenges. The summit highlights the need for technologies like fingerprinting, watermarking, and AI-based tracking to combat these issues. Experts and researchers will collaborate to propose practical solutions through panel discussions and workshops.

A unique highlight of WAVES 2025 is the formulation of the “WAVES Declaration 2025”, which will be co-created by global media leaders, producers, directors, and policymakers. This declaration will act as a guiding framework for international cooperation, content regulation, and ethical standards in the media and entertainment industry—offering India a seat at the table in shaping global media policies.

India’s media and entertainment industry is currently valued at around ₹2.3 lakh crore, and it’s expected to reach ₹4.3 lakh crore in the coming years. Initiatives like WAVES 2025 are expected to fuel job creation, startup development, and foreign investment, particularly in emerging sectors such as animation, VFX, game design, scriptwriting, and digital marketing—unlocking immense opportunities for the youth.

WAVES 2025 is more than just an event—it marks a historic moment in India’s journey to becoming a global media powerhouse. The ‘Create in India’ slogan has moved beyond being a mere tagline—it is now an actionable vision. As India, with all its diversity, steps up as a producer of world-class content, this summit will play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s cultural, economic, and creative identity. Indeed, WAVES 2025 is set to become a beacon guiding India toward a vibrant artistic future, making its mark not just in the entertainment industry, but in the broader narrative of India’s development story.
