India is Capable, Strong, Empowered, and Independent in Protecting Its Interests: Union Culture and Tourism Minister – Firm Message to Pakistan on Pahalgam Terror Attack

Jaipur : Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, firmly stated that India is capable, strong, empowered, and independent when it comes to defending its interests. Referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Shekhawat declared, “This is the new India.”

While on a visit to Jodhpur on Saturday, the Union Minister was asked about the Pahalgam terror incident and the resulting atmosphere of fear in Pakistan. He said, “There should be fear in Pakistan. As Goswami Tulsidas wrote in the Ramcharitmanas, ‘There can be no love without fear…’ When India responded with surgical strikes after Uri and Pulwama, it sent a strong message that any anti-India activity, whether on Indian soil or from abroad, would not be tolerated. Since then, there haven’t been any major terrorist incidents in the last five or six years. Now, with this recent cowardly act, India will respond fittingly. This is the new India, and Prime Minister Modi has clearly expressed this stance.”

When asked about Pakistani leaders threatening India with Ghauri and Ghaznavi missiles and nuclear weapons, Shekhawat remarked, “Ghauri and Ghaznavi existed earlier too. They invaded India and were repelled multiple times. During the air strikes, those missiles were there as well. Even a thousand years ago, our ancestors gave them a befitting lesson. Once again, our Agni and BrahMos missiles will be the apt response to their threats.”

India Has Global Support Against Terrorism

The Minister emphasized that countries across the world, especially those who’ve suffered from terrorism, now stand firmly with India. “The world acknowledges that the roots of terrorism are being nurtured in Pakistan. It’s not just the US; every major nation stands with India in this fight. But whether anyone stands with us or not, India is fully capable, empowered, and independent in defending its own interests,” he said.

Pakistan’s Panic Is Natural

Regarding the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Shekhawat noted that even during previous wars, India had honored the sanctity of the treaty. “But as our Prime Minister has clearly said — the time has come when blood and water cannot flow together. After 75 years of independence, we must reflect on the pressures under which this treaty was signed, and why compromises were made with the interests of our nation and our farmers. Pakistan’s current panic is expected — and it will continue. Bringing Indus waters to Rajasthan would be in India’s best interests. However, I believe there’s no need to rush; the time will come.”

Caste Census a Historic Step

On caste census and women’s reservation, Shekhawat said, “Post-independence, the country has evolved. A fresh review was necessary in this changed context. I wholeheartedly welcome the Prime Minister’s historic decision — it will uplift the poor, empower the underprivileged, and bring equality in the true spirit of Antyodaya (upliftment of the last person).”

Action on Obscene OTT & Social Media Content

Addressing concerns about vulgar content on OTT platforms and social media, the Union Minister said, “This is unfortunate. While this falls under the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the nation has expressed concern. Those responsible should certainly take cognizance and act.”

Salutes to the Media

On World Press Freedom Day, Shekhawat acknowledged the vital role of journalism. “From the time of India’s independence to now, the media has played as significant a role in safeguarding democracy as the judiciary. Today, with the rise of social media, a new media vertical has emerged, often influencing even formal news outlets. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence, the responsibility to maintain the sanctity of journalism has increased.” He extended his best wishes to all on World Press Freedom Day.
