Pakistan Violates LoC and Airspace, Indian Army Responds Firmly

New Delhi – Tensions escalated along the India-Pakistan border as Pakistan opened fire using small arms and artillery in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening. The Indian Army responded strongly, and further details of the engagement are awaited.

In a major development, Pakistan’s military also violated Indian airspace and launched drone intrusions across the western front on the night of May 7 and 8, targeting Indian military infrastructure. According to Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who addressed the media on Friday, 300 to 400 drones were deployed at 36 different locations. Many of these drones were intercepted and destroyed by Indian forces using both kinetic and non-kinetic means.

Preliminary investigation of the debris suggests that many of these drones were Turkish-made Asisguard Songar models, which are designed for surveillance and light combat roles. Colonel Qureshi stated that the large-scale drone intrusion was likely meant to test India’s air defense systems and gather intelligence. Forensic analysis of the drone wreckage is currently underway.

The attacks on Thursday night also included heavy artillery shelling along the LoC, as well as a wave of missile attacks resembling Hamas-style tactics used in Gaza—multiple low-cost rockets launched simultaneously to overwhelm defenses. Indian defense sources reported that this aggressive move was likely a retaliation to India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 8. The operation was conducted in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Earlier, the Indian Army launched a massive anti-drone operation, successfully shooting down over 50 Pakistani drones along the LoC and International Border. Pakistani attempts to launch further drone and missile attacks on key military installations in northern and western India were thwarted. Notably, Indian forces also managed to neutralize an air defense system in Lahore during the retaliatory strikes.

The situation remains tense, with both sides closely monitoring developments along the border. India has reiterated its commitment to national security and readiness to counter any form of aggression.
