Newly-Weds Pledge to Conserve Water at Mass Wedding under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah-Nikah Yojana

The Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, launched on March 30, 2025, continues across Madhya Pradesh until June 30, 2025. The campaign aims to rejuvenate rivers, ponds, lakes, traditional wells, stepwells (bawdis), and other water sources. Efforts include desilting, cleaning, demarcation, and restoration of these water bodies. Citizens are being made aware of responsible water usage, rainwater harvesting systems, and the construction of soak pits near water sources.

At a mass wedding ceremony in Chanderi, Ashoknagar district, organised under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah-Nikah Yojana, 54 couples tied the knot—46 Hindu marriages and 8 Muslim nikahs. After the ceremonies, the couples and their families were administered a water conservation pledge under the Jal Ganga campaign.

Human Chain and Stepwell Cleaning in Chhindwara

In Chhindwara district, the MP Jan Abhiyan Parishad, along with villagers, conducted a cleanliness drive along the banks of the Teen Dhari river in the model village of Bhutha Chhabri in Junnardeo. Villagers took part in a human chain and pledged to keep water sources clean and avoid water wastage. Volunteers also cleaned the historic stepwells of Deogarh village in Mohkhed block, known for their sweet and culturally significant water.

Old Pond Rejuvenated in Shahdol

A cleanup drive was held at Lallu Talab in Shahdol through community effort. Municipal officials, sanitation teams, and local residents participated. Along with constructing new ponds, the restoration of old ponds, wells, and stepwells is underway. Work is also being done to keep riverbanks clean and maintain water quality, especially at sites of historical and religious significance.

Desilting at Utavali Check Dam in Dewas

In Dewas, officials and staff carried out a cleaning drive at Utavali Check Dam under the Jal Ganga campaign. Wearing gloves and masks, they formed a human chain to collect waste and dispose of it using tractors. The district will also construct a ₹25 lakh Amrit Sarovar (sacred reservoir) at Ponas, spanning 10,000 sq.m. with a storage capacity of 25,000 cubic meters. The reservoir will enhance base flow to the Kalisindh River.

District In-charge Minister Shri Jagdish Deora performed the bhoomi-pujan of the Amrit Sarovar and stated that Narmada water will reach every farmer’s field, enabling them to grow three crops annually. The event was dedicated to the Indian Army, with former soldiers being honoured and a tricolour-themed human chain formed with messages of pride in the armed forces.

Farmers in Sehore Lead by Example

Farmers in Sehore district have initiated the construction of over 687 out of 1,670 targeted farm ponds. Additionally, 2,250 out of 2,600 approved recharge pits are underway, with 1,440 already under construction. The SIPRI software developed by the Madhya Pradesh State Employment Guarantee Council has been instrumental, using modern geospatial and hydrological techniques to identify optimal construction sites.
