Lucknow : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Tuesday, said that the Uttar Pradesh government will get the Hathras incident probed thoroughly to uncover the truth and appropriate punishment will be given to the conspirators, or those responsible.
Addressing a press conference at his official residence, he also lashed out at parties for politicizing the issue, instead of conveying condolences to the bereaved families, calling it ‘extremely unfortunate and condemnable’. “This is the time to heal the wounds of the victims, to sympathize with them”, he stated.
He remarked: “We will get to the bottom of what actually went wrong. After a thorough investigation, it will be clear whether it was an accident, or the result of a conspiracy. The government is highly sensitive to this matter, and no culprit will be spared.”
CM Yogi described the incident as extremely sad and heartbreaking. The incident reportedly occurred between 3 pm and 3:30 pm in Sikandrarao, Hathras district. Local organizers had arranged a Bhole Baba event in the village through a satsang, with local devotees participating in it.
CM Yogi added: “Following the conclusion of the stage program, a stampede occurred when the preacher of the Satsang was descending from the stage. As a crowd of devotees approached him, sevadars attempted to stop them, leading to the chaos. To investigate the entire incident, a team has been formed under the leadership of Additional DG Agra and includes the Divisional Commissioner of Aligarh. They have been asked to provide a report immediately.”
CM Yogi further informed that, in response to the incident, the Chief Secretary and DGP of the state are present at the scene, along with three state government ministers, Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan, Sandeep Singh, and Asim Arun, who are assisting with the treatment and care of the injured.
Meanwhile, bBoth the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended their condolences to the bereaved families. Additionally, the Government of India and the State Government have announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for each of the seriously injured.
Upon receiving news of the accident at the religious gathering in Hathras, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was in Lucknow, took immediate action. Deeply affected by the incident, he promptly dispatched three ministers to the site and directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to enhance the arrangements.
The meeting of senior officials at the Chief Minister’s residence continued late into the evening, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally receiving direct updates from the ministers and officials who were present on the spot.
In addition to ordering an FIR against the organizers, the Chief Minister ensured all necessary arrangements were made for the proper treatment of the injured. The Health departments of Hathras, Etah, and surrounding areas were activated to ensure an adequate team of doctors was available for the treatment of the injured.
Meanwhile, an NDRF team was dispatched to the spot to enhance relief efforts. The Chief Minister has emphasized that those responsible for the incident will face strict consequences.
