Government equivocates on Operation Sindoor.
Senior Congress leader and Minister for Information & Technology, Government of Karnataka Priyank Kharge on Tuesday have criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on Operation Sindoor, accusing him of opting for a monologue rather than engaging in dialogue with the Opposition and the people of the country.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge said it has been over two weeks since the start of Operation Sindoor, yet the Prime Minister has chosen not to brief Parliament or call an all-party meeting. “While the Prime Minister is ready to speak to world leaders about Pakistan, he has failed to address his own countrymen and the political parties within India“.
The Congress leader reiterated his party stands firmly with the government in any decisive action taken in the interest of the nation. “However, staying silent for so long and coming out with yet another lengthy monologue helps no one“. Kharge have also questioned the lack of transparency in the government’s handling of diplomatic developments, especially in light of former US President Donald Trump’s claim that his mediation efforts led to a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. “This is nothing but interference in a bilateral issue” he said.
He contrasted the Indian Prime Minister’s silence with the response of the Pakistani leadership. “The Prime Minister of Pakistan had convened Pakistan Parliament and declared victory over India, yet our Prime Minister has remained quiet”. Calling for a more forthright approach, Kharge urged the Prime Minister to “stop fighting battles through the media and social media, and instead focus on foreign diplomacy and telling the truth to the nation“.
Although Mr. Priyank Kharge has reiterated that Donald Trump’s claim of US promising ‘a lot of trade’ in exchange for ceasefire agreement, was a mere farce, and an interference in a sensitive bilateral issue, the Indian Government today rebutted US President Donald Trump’s hilarious claim, stating that
there was “no reference to trade” in any of their discussions with the US side. Sources said that after Operation Sindoor commenced, Vice President JD Vance spoke to Prime Minister Modi on May 9.
The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to External Affairs Minister on May 8 and May 10, and to National Security Advisor on May 10. “There was no reference to trade in any of these discussions”, the sources added.
Notably, President Trump, in a media statement today, said that the US “helped a lot”, in getting the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on May 10. President Donald Trump had quoted,
“And we helped also with trade. I said ‘come on we’re going to do a lot of trade with you guys, let’s stop it, let’s stop it” (referring to the hostilities). If you stop it, we’re doing trade, if you don’t stop it, we’re not going to do any trade. People have never used trade the way I have. And they have, and they did it for a lot of reasons but trade is a big one. We’re going to do a lot of trade with Pakistan, and a lot of trade with India. We’re negotiating with India right now, were going to soon be negotiating with Pakistan, and we stopped a nuclear conflict, I think it could have been a bad nuclear war. Millions of people could have been killed. I’m proud of that, I also want to thank VP Vance and Secretary Rubio for their work and efforts, they have worked very hard”.
