Jal Ganga Samwardhan Campaign Offers Holistic Solution to the Global Water Crisis
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign has emerged as a collective confluence of environmental protection, water conservation, revival of traditional water structures, and cultural awareness. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has taken a significant initiative through this campaign to address the serious issue of water scarcity, which concerns not just the state or the country, but the entire world. For an agriculture-based nation like India, the issue of water scarcity is a matter of life and death. The solutions to future concerns lie in today’s focused efforts towards water conservation.
The campaign is a multi-dimensional initiative aimed at reviving and preserving traditional water sources like rivers, ponds, lakes, stepwells, old wells, and natural streams across the state. It has evolved from a government program into a mass public movement, actively involving communities at all levels.
Restoration of Traditional Water Sources is a Sacred Task: Deputy CM Shri Devda
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Jagdish Devda inspected various water conservation activities under the Jal Ganga Campaign in Jabalpur district. He visited the Kundeshwar Dham’s Guriya village, where he reviewed
the construction of farm ponds and recharge wells, and Jogitalab in Bagharaji village, where work under the lagoon method is underway for expansion and strengthening. Addressing the public in Bagharaji, Shri Devda praised the administrative efforts toward water conservation and appreciated the campaign’s focus on documenting and reviving ancient water bodies across the state.
He also inspected works at Hanuman Tal under the campaign, where desilting, fencing, and aeration works are being carried out under the AMRUT scheme at a cost of ₹55.09 lakh.
Desilting and Waste Removal Drive in Tapti River, BurhanpurAs part of the campaign, a massive community-led cleanliness drive was conducted at the Tapti Ghat near Nayakheda village in Burhanpur. The drive saw the participation of local villagers, public representatives including Nepanagar MLA Sushri Manju Dadu, Janpad President Shri Rakesh Solanki, Zila Panchayat CEO Sushri Lata Sharanagat, and various administrative officers. Participants entered the Tapti River to remove silt, old clothes, plastic waste, and algae, visibly improving the condition of the river.
Public Awareness Rises in Sehore Through Vibrant Activities
In Sehore district, a series of awareness activities are being conducted to educate rural citizens about the importance of water conservation. Activities include wall paintings, awareness rallies, poster-banner displays, rangoli competitions, village meetings, Kalash Yatras, and oath-taking ceremonies. Simultaneously, physical restoration of wells, ponds, and dams is being actively pursued.
A public awareness camp was also held by the Public Health Engineering Department at Khokhri village in Jatakheda Gram Panchayat to further sensitize people about water conservation.
Community Revival of Khirawali Talab in Morena
Employees of the Water Resources Department, along with local citizens, cleared vegetation and wild growth around the Khirawali Talab as part of the campaign. Their joint efforts have revived the pond, ensuring water availability even during the summer and boosting groundwater recharge during the upcoming monsoon.
Renovation of Ancient Stepwell in Harda
In Harda district, the ancient stepwell located in the Kalu Baba premises is undergoing renovation and deepening under the Jal Ganga Campaign. The District Collector, during the inspection, instructed the
municipal authorities to complete the work before the onset of monsoon and to install an information board narrating the history of the stepwell.
This public participation-driven campaign, symbolic of a modern-day Bhagirathi resolve, is rapidly transforming into a statewide movement aimed at ensuring a secure, sustainable, and water-abundant Madhya Pradesh for future generations.
