Stalin Inaugurates 3 Women’s Hostels, Lays Foundation for 14 More
Three hostels constructed at a cost of ₹38.15 crore opened in Parangimalai, Hosur, and Tiruvannamalai for working women; Foundation laid by Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin for 14 new hostels at an estimated cost of ₹176.93 crore.
Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin today (21.05.2025) at the Secretariat, under the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment and operated by the Tamil Nadu Working Women’s Hostels Corporation, inaugurated via video conference newly constructed hostels for working women in Parangimalai, Hosur, and Tiruvannamalai at a cost of ₹38.15 crore.
Additionally, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for 14 new working women’s hostels to be built at a cost of ₹176.93 crore in the following locations: Ramani, Kappakkam, Madurai, Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Krishnagiri, Erode, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Theni, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, and Karur.
Understanding the needs of women who migrate from their hometowns to other cities for work, the Government of Tamil Nadu, under the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, has been implementing the “Working Women’s Hostels” scheme across various districts to provide quality, secure, and affordable accommodation.
So far, in 13 districts including Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Vellore, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, and Thoothukudi, 1380 working women have benefitted from 16 hostels, inaugurated and made functional by the Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
These hostels provide safe accommodation for women from economically disadvantaged and marginalized communities with all necessary facilities.
In view of the increasing demand for working women’s hostels, three new hostels with 442 beds were inaugurated today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister in Chennai-Parangimalai, Hosur, and Tiruvannamalai at a cost of ₹38.15 crore.
Additionally, the foundation stone was laid for 14 new hostels in Ramani, Kappakkam, Madurai, Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Krishnagiri, Erode, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Theni, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, and Karur, at a total cost of ₹176.93 crore, which will benefit 2000 working women.
These hostels will be equipped with the following amenities: Biometric entry system, 24×7 security, Wi-Fi, CCTV, purified drinking water, nutritious food, TV, hot water supply, washing machines, ironing facility, and vehicle parking, all at reasonable charges.
Present at the event were Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Thirumathi Geetha Jeevan, Chief Secretary Thiru N. Muruganandam, IAS, Department Secretary Thirumathi Jeyashree Murali Rani, IAS, Corporation Managing Director Thirumathi R. Jeyarmathi, IAS, and other senior government officials.
