Singapore PM Lawrence Wong Reshuffles Cabinet After Election Win

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced a cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday following his party’s strong performance in the May 3 general election. Wong, who led the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) to a decisive victory in his first election as Prime Minister, has introduced six new ministers across 15 ministries.

He retained nine existing ministers, including Trade Minister Gan Kim Yong, who continues as Deputy Prime Minister. However, unlike previous cabinets, Wong did not appoint a second Deputy Prime Minister this time. Key ministries have remained unchanged, reflecting a desire for continuity and stability.

Wong also named three ministers as Coordinating Ministers for National Security, Public Services, and Social Policies. The PAP’s nearly two-thirds share of the vote underscored continued public support for the government.

The reshuffle signals Wong’s intent to balance fresh leadership with experienced governance as he begins his tenure.
