Rajasthan Housing Board Sets Example in Energy Conservation – ‘Awas Bhawan’ Receives 5-Star Rating from Ministry of Power’s BEE
Jaipur – The Rajasthan Housing Board has emerged as a role model in the field of energy conservation. The Board’s headquarters building, Awas Bhawan, has been honored with a prestigious 5-star rating by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. This recognition highlights the building’s exceptional energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and the Board’s strong commitment to sustainable development. The achievement sets an inspiring benchmark for other government buildings across Rajasthan.
The Energy Performance Index (EPI) assesses energy efficiency during the design and construction phases of a building. It measures energy usage, typically in terms of energy consumed per square meter or per person. By using EPI standards, buildings can be optimized through improved insulation, efficient appliances, or integration of renewable energy sources. It serves as a critical tool for evaluating and enhancing energy performance.
Based on BEE’s evaluation, Awas Bhawan—with a built-up area of 18,513.75 square meters and a connected load of 250 KW—achieved an EPI of 14.3 kWh/(sqm/year), earning it the coveted 5-star rating.
On this occasion, Housing Commissioner Dr. Rashmi Sharma expressed immense pride, stating, “This recognition is a matter of great honor for us and a testament to our team’s collective efforts. We remain committed to contributing to energy efficiency and are striving to achieve 5-star ratings in our residential projects as well.”
She further affirmed that, in line with the state government’s vision, the Rajasthan Housing Board will continue to focus on energy conservation, environmental sustainability, and holistic urban development in the future.
