Various Initiatives by Animal Husbandry Department to Mark 300th Birth Anniversary of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar – Minister Pankaja Munde
Mumbai : To commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, the Animal Husbandry Department will organize various programs across the state on May 31, 2025, aiming to effectively spread awareness about her work, thoughts, and inspirational life, announced Animal Husbandry Minister Pankaja Munde.
Ahilyadevi Holkar is a shining symbol of capable and visionary womanhood in Indian history. She established an ideal model of governance through religious tolerance, social welfare, public works, just administration, and women’s education. Her legacy of service, devotion, and administrative skill continues to serve as a guiding light for Maharashtra’s progressive journey.
In line with this, Minister Munde stated that several initiatives will be undertaken by the department and its subordinate offices. These include:
- Cleaning and beautification of office and veterinary clinic premises
- Organizing sterility treatment and healthcare camps at the village level
- Visiting nomadic shepherds to provide them with technical guidance
- Pre-monsoon vaccinations for goats and sheep
- Deworming and tick control of livestock
- Implementing measures to reduce mortality among goat and sheep kids
- Hosting technical workshops and seminars for shepherds
- Conducting tree plantation drives
A special commemorative program will also be held at the department’s headquarters under the guidance of Animal Husbandry Commissioners Ramaswamy N. and Dr. Praveenkumar Devre.
Minister Munde expressed confidence that these initiatives will allow the department to directly connect with goat and sheep herders, providing them with information on various government schemes and modern techniques for livestock management. She added that such efforts will help the department in formulating and implementing effective policies to make goat and sheep farming more economically viable through modern business practices.
