Special Initiative to Highlight the Glorious History of Tribal Society : CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that the Madhya Pradesh Government is fully committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s resolve of “Preserving Heritage along with Development.” After celebrating the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai in Indore, a Cabinet meeting will now be held on Tuesday, 3 June, in Pachmarhi in memory of revolutionary hero Raja Bhubhut Singh.

CM Dr. Yadav said the purpose of holding Cabinet meetings at such historic locations is to honor heritage while promoting development. Young patriot Raja Bhubhut Singh played a key role in initiating the armed uprising of 1857 from the lap of the Satpura hills, serving as a principal ally of freedom fighter Tatya Tope. He continued to fiercely resist British rule until 1860.

By organizing the Cabinet meeting in Pachmarhi, the state government aims to pay tribute to the great freedom fighter Raja Bhubhut Singh and recall his sacrifice for the nation, Dr. Yadav said in a message to the media on Monday.

Raja Bhubhut Singh United All Sections of Society in the Freedom Struggle

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said Raja Bhubhut Singh was so skilled in guerrilla warfare that he came to be known as the Shivaji of Narmadanchal. He not only mobilized the tribal community but also brought together all sections of society in the freedom movement. He knew every inch of the rugged terrain of the Satpura hills, while the British were unfamiliar with the region’s geography.

To capture him, the British government had to summon the Madras Infantry. It took two years of intense effort before the British army could finally arrest him. Stories of Raja Bhubhut Singh’s valor still live on in the collective memory of the people. Today’s Bori area of Pachmarhi once belonged to his estate. His grandfather, Thakur Mohan Singh, had also supported Nagpur’s valiant Peshwa Appa Saheb Bhonsle against the British in 1819–20 in the Chauragarh Mahadev hills.

Tribal Warriors Sacrificed for Water, Forest, and Land

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that Pachmarhi served as the summer capital of Madhya Pradesh until 1959, and the Assembly sessions were once held there. The government has now chosen this historic place once again for a Cabinet meeting.

Pachmarhi is not only blessed with natural beauty but is also a symbol of the sacrifices made by tribal communities in the freedom struggle. Tribal warriors laid down their lives not only in the 1857 uprising but even before that, defending their rights over water, forests, and land. The state government is working to bring this glorious history to light, while ensuring that all sections of society, including tribal brothers and sisters, are represented and respected.

Legislators’ Training Session to Follow Cabinet Meeting in Pachmarhi

Chief Minister M Dr. Yadav added that the government is working across the state for the welfare of the Poor, Farmers (Annadatas), Youth, and Nari Sashkatikaran. Madhya Pradesh’s forests are thriving, and the population of tigers and other wildlife continues to grow, thanks to the commendable role played by tribal communities in conservation.

Pachmarhi is also an important center for employment and tourism. During the Cabinet meeting, extensive discussions will take place regarding the development of the Pachmarhi region. It is noteworthy that several development restrictions in the area were lifted in the previous Cabinet meeting, paving the way for new growth. Pachmarhi is now poised to regain its past glory along with its natural splendor. Following the Cabinet meeting, a training session for MLAs and MPs will also be held as part of the second phase.
