Child Rights Commission Takes Tough Stand on Cruelty Against Children

Commission Chairperson Dr. Varnika Sharma Issues Strict Instructions

Raipur : The Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken serious note of an incident of assault involving a minor girl in Balod district and adopted a strict stance on the matter. Commission Chairperson Dr. Varnika Sharma expressed displeasure over the police’s failure to include Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act (which pertains to cruelty against children) in the chargesheet and has issued a stern letter to the Superintendent of Police, Balod, on June 2, 2025.

The case is linked to a domestic dispute where a woman and her minor daughter were verbally abused and physically assaulted. During the Commission’s hearing, it was revealed that the accused had pushed the girl, causing her to fall and sustain a head injury, followed by symptoms such as dizziness and blurred vision. Although the Child Welfare Committee had directed the police to register the case under Section 75 of the JJ Act, the provision was not included in the final chargesheet. Taking strong cognizance, Dr. Sharma has instructed that the section be added and immediate action be taken.

The case has been registered under reference number 1297/25 and the Commission has commenced its review. Dr. Sharma firmly stated that any form of cruelty against children will not be tolerated. The Commission is committed to working seriously for the protection of children’s rights. This strict approach not only aims to make law enforcement more responsive to child welfare but also marks a significant step toward curbing violence against children in the state.
