Mock Drill Conducted in Shivrinarayan to Tackle Flood Disasters

Collector and SP Reviewed Preparedness; Rescue Teams Carried Out Real-Time Demonstration

Raipur : In preparation for the monsoon season, a mock drill was conducted today at Baba Ghat on the banks of the Mahanadi River in Shivrinarayan to simulate a response to potential flood disasters. Janjgir Collector Mr. Janmejay Mahobe and Superintendent of Police Mr. Vijay Kumar Pandey visited the site to review the arrangements and oversee the execution.

During the drill, a joint team from SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and Nagar Sainik (Home Guard) demonstrated flood and fire disaster management using available rescue equipment. The demo included the use of motor boats, scuba diving gear, life jackets, searchlights, and other modern tools. The team also demonstrated how everyday household items like drums, earthen pots, plastic bottles, and tubes can be improvised into makeshift rafts and life jackets to save lives during emergencies.

Appreciating the preparedness, Collector Mr. Mahobe said that the district’s disaster response team is fully alert and capable. He emphasized the importance of such mock drills in enhancing disaster management capabilities, enabling rescue teams to respond quickly and effectively in real-life situations. These drills not only prepare the administration but also make common citizens aware of the steps to take during disasters.

Superintendent of Police Mr. Pandey stated that the mock drill served as a review of the teams’ readiness, highlighting that such planned exercises enable better coordination between authorities and the public during emergencies to ensure the safety of life and property.

District Commander Ms. Yogyata Sahu informed that a joint team of SDRF Bilaspur and Nagar Sainik Janjgir had been formed for the drill. The exercise included simulations of flooding, drowning incidents, rescue operations for stranded individuals, and fire emergencies, all practiced with a focus on minimizing response time. Citizens were also taught how to use unused or discarded household items to protect themselves during emergencies.

Present at the event were Additional Collector Mr. R.K. Singh Tamboli, SDM Mr. Subrat Pradhan, and personnel from SDRF, Nagar Sainik, along with other officials and staff members.
