Rationalisation Brings Light of Learning to Previously Teacherless Schools

Raipur : Thanks to the rationalisation (Yuktikaran) process, government schools in remote rural areas of Raigarh district that previously had no teachers or only one teacher are now receiving much-needed staff, transforming the educational atmosphere for thousands of children.

In the Kumhichua village school of Dharamjaigarh block, 105 students were attending a school with no teachers. Now, after rationalisation, four new teachers have been appointed. This marks a major shift for students who were previously struggling without guidance. Secretary Ishwar Dansena stated that the villagers and the sarpanch had long demanded teachers for the school, concerned about their children’s future. Until now, children from Classes 1 to 5 faced severe learning difficulties due to the lack of faculty. The arrival of teachers has now brought a ray of hope.

Across Raigarh district, 21 teacherless schools and 267 single-teacher schools have now been allotted additional teaching staff. This was made possible after the state government’s directive to complete the counselling process for surplus teachers. Teachers previously posted in well-staffed urban schools have now been transferred to remote and under-served areas.

In Kolam, a government upper primary school in Tamnar block, the student count is 112, but until recently, there was only one teacher. According to Sarpanch Gangaram Porte, students from nearly ten surrounding villages attend this school. With just one teacher, learning was severely hampered. Now, the school has received two more teachers, greatly improving the quality of education.

Earlier, schools in the plains had a surplus of teachers compared to student enrollment, while remote and hilly schools had severe shortages. This imbalance in the distribution of resources was affecting student performance, especially in subjects like Mathematics and Science, due to a lack of subject-specific teachers. Students who wanted to pursue higher education in these fields were being left behind.

The rationalisation process has directly addressed these issues, redistributing teachers where they are needed most. With this initiative, teacher deployment in 21 previously teacherless schools and 267 single-teacher schools has been successfully completed. As a result, school operations and the learning environment are now set to improve significantly across the district.
