Jaipur Tops State in ‘Give Up’ Campaign: Over 1.88 Lakh Ineligible Beneficiaries Surrender Food Security Benefits
Jaipur – Under the directives of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, the ‘Give Up’ campaign is being effectively conducted in Jaipur district to encourage ineligible beneficiaries of the National Food Security Scheme to voluntarily surrender their entitlements.
So far, Jaipur has recorded the highest number of voluntary surrenders, with 1,88,255 ineligible individuals giving up their benefits. Simultaneously, 1,81,485 newly eligible beneficiaries have been added to the food security list in Jaipur between January 26 and June 2, 2025, ensuring their rightful access to government assistance.
Jaipur district ranks first among all 41 districts in Rajasthan for the highest number of ‘Give Up’ cases. District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni has been personally monitoring the campaign’s implementation and progress. According to District Food Officer Shri Trilokchand Meena, the initiative is being carried out from the district headquarters to the village panchayat level.
Public programs such as night chaupals (community meetings), public hearings, and gram sabhas are being used to raise awareness, with support from elected representatives, officials, and community leaders. This grassroots approach has gained widespread public support in Jaipur.
In one such night chaupal in Begas village of Kalwar tehsil, 128 villagers consented on the spot to surrender their ineligible benefits, responding to an appeal by the District Collector.
To ensure accountability, 986 notices have been issued to ineligible beneficiaries, urging them to voluntarily remove their names from the list. The campaign will run until June 30, 2025. Those who give up their names by this deadline will not face any legal action.
However, from the date of inclusion in the list to the date of removal, any food grain received by ineligible persons will be recovered at ₹27 per kilogram, along with interest. Lists of such government employees are being prepared, and concerned departments will be instructed to recover dues through monthly salary deductions.
The campaign focuses on excluding families from the food security list that fall under specific disqualification categories, including:
- Households where any member is a regular employee or officer in government, semi-government, or autonomous bodies
- Pensioners receiving over ₹1 lakh annually
- Families with total annual income exceeding ₹1 lakh
- Income tax payers or owners of private four-wheelers
Thousands of families in Jaipur city have already applied under the ‘Give Up’ initiative to remove their names voluntarily.
