The Kol Tribe Known for Its Bravery and Dignity since Ancient Times: CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the tribal community has a rich and glorious history and has played a significant role in India’s independence and development. The Kol tribal community, in particular, has been known for its bravery and seriousness since ancient times. Many heroes from the tribal society made supreme sacrifices in the struggle against the British to protect water, forests, and land.
The Chief Minister announced that in all areas of the state where the Kol tribe resides and does not yet possess land titles (pattas), the government will conduct surveys and issue pattas accordingly. He also declared the installation of a statue of the revolutionary tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Birsa Munda Medical College in Shahdol and another statue of Banabhatta at Bansagar Reservoir. CM Dr. Yadav further announced that the government will bear the cost of education and coaching for tribal children. Hostels with 100 beds each for boys and girls, along with pre-exam training centers, will be set up in all divisions at a cost of Rs. 24 crore each.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing the State-Level Kol Tribal Convention in Beohari, where he also inaugurated 55 development works worth Rs. 330 crore and performed Bhoomi-Poojan for 52 new projects.
CMDr. Yadav stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the country’s global stature has risen significantly. He added that the Prime Minister has worked tirelessly for the development of every section of society and is committed to the progress of the poor, youth, women, and farmers the four core missions of the Modi government.
The Chief Minister stated that 4 crore people have already been provided with permanent houses, and those who were left out will also be surveyed and given houses.
CM Dr. Yadav announced a gift of Rs.250 to the state’s ‘Ladli Behnas’ on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. He also assured strict action after investigation in cases of false accusations against tribals.
CM Dr. Yadav declared that the life story of Bhagwan Birsa Munda will be included in the school curriculum and that Kanya Shiksha Parisars (Girls’ Education Campuses) in 13 districts will be named after Mata Shabari.
Remembering Tribal Heroes
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also paid tribute to Raja Bhubhut Singh, in whose honor a cabinet meeting was held at his capital Pachmarhi. He mentioned that the Kol community is proud of its many illustrious figures, including Budhu Bhagat and Madara Mehto, who led rebellions against British oppression in 1831–32. He highlighted the community’s devotion by recalling how Kol members built a hut for Lord Shri Ram. CM Dr. Yadav recalled that a cabinet meeting was also held at Singrampur in honor of Rani Durgavati.
The convention began with the lighting of the lamp, worship of girls, and garlanding of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s statue. The event was also addressed by Shri Ramlal Rautel, Chairman of Kol Development Authority, and Shri Sharad Kol, MLA from Beohari.
Major Announcements for Shahdol District
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav made several key announcements for the development of Shahdol district, including Rs.28 crore for Shahdol city’s drinking water system, Establishment of a college in Gram Panchayat Nipaniya, Promotion of Water Tourism at Sarasi Island of Bansagar Reservoir, Construction of a bridge from Charki Dol to Odari River in Jaysinghnagar tehsil at a cost of Rs.13 crore and Restoration of Bhagdeora Fort at Rampur Baghelan tehsil in Satna district.
CM Dr. Yadav also announced Rs. 10 lakh for nine football teams from the village of Vicharpur (Mini Brazil of Shahdol), expressing hope that state kids will excel in sports and bring fame to Madhya Pradesh. Cultural performers at the event were awarded Rs.5, 000 each. He distributed various benefits to beneficiaries and self-help groups under government schemes and visited the exhibition at the convention site, expressing appreciation.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and Shahdol District In-Charge Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla, Tribal Welfare Minister Dr. Kunwar Vijay Shah, MP from Sidhi Dr. Rajesh Mishra, MLA Jaitpur Shri Jay Singh Maravi, MLA Jaysinghnagar Smt. Manisha Singh, Kol Development Authority’s Shri Brajlal Kol and a large number of public representatives, social workers, and citizens were present.
