Lucknow : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is redefining educational empowerment of Divyangjans. As part of this effort, 16 special schools with a capacity of 2,040 students are currently operational across the state, with 1,680 children enrolled. These institutions are helping Divyang children move toward self-reliance through education, while also fostering greater social inclusion and empowerment.
As part of its initiative to operate special schools, the government is running 16 such institutions in the state with a total capacity of 2,040 students. Currently, 1,680 differently-abled children are enrolled in these schools and are steadily moving toward self-reliance through education. This initiative not only empowers them, but also promotes inclusion in society.
In accordance with the specific needs of children, schools have been set up for different categories of disability. ‘Prayas Vidyalayas’ cater to children with mobility challenges and operate at the high school level in Pratapgarh and Lucknow with a combined capacity of 100. For children with intellectual disabilities, ‘Mamta Vidyalayas’ are being run up to the junior high school level—one for boys in Prayagraj and one for girls in Lucknow—with a capacity of 100.
For speech and hearing-impaired children, the government is running ‘Sanket Vidyalayas’ in Agra, Lucknow, Bareilly, Farrukhabad, and Gorakhpur. While Agra offers high school education, the other locations provide junior high school level education. These schools collectively have a capacity of 790.
‘Sparsh Vidyalayas’ for visually impaired children are being run in Lucknow and Gorakhpur for both boys and girls, in Meerut and Banda for boys, and in Saharanpur for girls, with a combined capacity of 1,050 students. Each school is staffed with specially trained teachers and equipped with tailored resources to provide education suited to each child’s unique needs and abilities.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remains committed to integrating divyangjans into the mainstream. He believes that through focused education and empowerment of differently-abled children, an inclusive society can be built. These special schools emphasize not only academic learning, but also the holistic development of students. The 1,680 enrolled students are receiving special training, assistive devices, and a supportive environment tailored to their needs.
This initiative extends beyond the classroom, helping shape the futures of these children. Students in these institutions are growing in confidence and working toward fulfilling their aspirations.
