CM Bhupendra Patel Launches Sanskrit Revival Initiatives in Gujarat
Gandhinagar : Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel chaired the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Gujarat State Sanskrit Board in Gandhinagar and unveiled the board’s new logo in the presence of Education Minister Dr. Kuberbhai Dindor and Board Chairman Dr. Himanjay Paliwal.
Under the Chief Minister’s leadership, a five-point plan for the promotion and preservation of Sanskrit has been launched. This “Yojana Panchakam” includes:
- Sanskrit Saptahotsav Scheme
- Sanskrit Samvardhan Sahayata Yojana (Support Scheme for Sanskrit Development)
- Sanskrit Protsahan Yojana (Sanskrit Encouragement Scheme)
- Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Yojana
- Shata Subhashita Kantha Path Yojana (100 Moral Verses Recitation Scheme)
From August 6 to 13, 2025, “Sanskrit Week” will be celebrated across the state in collaboration with educational institutions and organizations to create a Sanskrit-rich atmosphere. This will culminate on Sanskrit Day, observed annually on Raksha Bandhan (Shravan Sud Poonam), which falls on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Promoting Sanskrit in Public Consciousness
CM Patel emphasized that the Gujarat State Sanskrit Board was established in 2020 in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Virasat bhi, Vikas bhi” (Heritage as well as Progress), to ensure the contextual propagation of the ancient Sanskrit language and its literature. The Chief Minister said the aim is to bring this timeless language closer to every citizen through structured initiatives and educational outreach.
Overview of the Five Schemes:
- Sanskrit Saptahotsav Yojana:
Events will be organized in schools and cultural institutions across Gujarat during the week-long Sanskrit festival to encourage wider participation and create a Sanskrit-centric environment. - Sanskrit Samvardhan Sahayata Yojana:
Financial assistance will be provided to organizations conducting workshops, conferences, training, innovation programs, festivals, and research projects that promote Sanskrit language and literature. - Sanskrit Protsahan Yojana:
Schools with more than 100 students in Class 10, where all students are studying Sanskrit, will be eligible for financial aid from the board based on enrollment numbers. - Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Yojana:
This scheme seeks to familiarize all people of Gujarat, young and old, with the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most revered global scriptures. - Shata Subhashita Kantha Path Yojana:
A recitation initiative to instill 100 moral sayings (subhashitas) in communities to nurture good citizenship and ethical values in society.
Strategic Vision and Future Plans
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed a presentation detailing the board’s current activities and directed future planning for greater impact. He emphasized the Sanskrit Board’s role as the nodal agency for implementing Sanskrit-related policies and schemes in Gujarat.
Senior officials attending the meeting included Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary of Education Department Sunayna Tomar, Education Principal Secretary Mukesh Kumar, Finance Department Principal Secretary T. Natarajan, Chief Minister’s Additional Principal Secretary Avantika Singh, Higher Education Commissioner Dilip Rana, and Chairman of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Shri Pandya.
