Yogi govt building 237 bridges across 10 regions at Rs 16,967 crore to ease traffic in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow : Aiming to transform Uttar Pradesh into ‘Uttam Pradesh,’ the Yogi Adityanath government is boosting connectivity through the construction of 237 bridges across 10 key zones. As per the PWD roadmap, the projects include 116 river bridges, 96 railway overbridges (ROBs), 12 flyovers, and 13 other critical works. Executed by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Setu Nigam Limited, the initiative is valued at Rs 16,967 crore and is set to significantly improve traffic flow and infrastructure across the state.
The bridge construction works span major regions including Agra, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. Of the 237 projects, 61 are nearing completion (76%–99%), 60 are midway (51%–75%), and 33 have achieved 26%–50% progress.
According to the PWD’s priority plan, 116 river bridges are under construction with a cumulative budget exceeding Rs 6,123 crore. Among these, 26 bridges are nearly complete (76%–99%), 28 are midway (51%–75%), and 18 are approaching half-completion (26%–50%).
Similarly, 96 railway overbridges are under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 7,557 crore. Of these, 33 projects are 76%–99% complete, 27 are at 51%–75%, and 9 have progressed between 26% and 50%.
In addition, 12 flyovers are being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 1,540 crore. Among these, one project is 76%–99% complete, two are at 51%–75%, and another two have reached 26%–50% progress. Furthermore, 13 other deposit works are underway at a total cost of Rs 1,745 crore.
Lucknow zone tops the list with maximum ongoing works
Of the total bridge projects, the Lucknow zone has the highest number — 47 — under implementation at a combined cost of Rs 3,427 crore. Out of these, 8 projects are 76–99% complete, 14 are at 51–75%, and 8 are between 26–50%.
In Ghaziabad, 38 bridge projects worth Rs 2,626 crore are in progress, with 11 nearing completion, 10 halfway through, and 5 close to 50% complete.
Similarly, 26 projects each are underway in Kanpur and Ayodhya, with estimated costs of Rs 1,885 crore and Rs 1,392 crore respectively. Among these, 9 projects across both zones are currently between 76% and 99% complete.
Similarly, preparations are in progress to complete 23 projects in Agra at a cost of Rs 1,360 crore, 24 projects in Gorakhpur with an investment of Rs 2,191 crore, 22 projects in Varanasi at Rs 1,278 crore, 13 projects in Bareilly at Rs 609 crore, 10 projects in Prayagraj at Rs 890 crore, and 8 projects in the Azamgarh zone at a cost of Rs 1,301 crore.
