Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit: First Journey of Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train Successfully Completed

CM Devendra Fadnavis Expresses Gratitude to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Mumbai – The first tour of the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train dedicated to the valor and legendary history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been successfully completed. This six-day pilgrimage offered tourists an immersive experience of the great Maratha warrior’s life through visits to significant historical sites. The initiative was met with widespread appreciation by travelers, who described the journey as a memorable tribute to Shivaji Maharaj. They praised the joint effort of the Indian Railways Ministry, Maharashtra Government, and IRCTC.

The first trip of the train on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit took place from June 9 to June 14, 2025. In light of the tour’s success, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. CM Fadnavis noted that the initiative has received a great response from travelers and showcases Maharashtra’s pride in Shivaji Maharaj’s glorious legacy. In a letter to Minister Vaishnaw, Fadnavis affirmed Maharashtra’s commitment to supporting more such initiatives that honor India’s rich heritage and history.

The journey commenced on June 9, the anniversary of Shivrajyabhishek (coronation), from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, flagged off by CM Fadnavis. The train covered Raigad, Pune (Kasba Ganpati, Lal Mahal, Shivsrushti), Bhimashankar Jyotirling, Shivneri Fort, Pratapgad, Kolhapur (Mahalakshmi Temple), Panhala, and returned to Mumbai.

After departing from Mumbai, the train’s first stop was Mangaon (Raigad district). Tourists were taken by special buses to Raigad Fort, the capital of Shivaji Maharaj’s empire. Some chose to hike while others used ropeways. The tourists were able to witness the grandeur of the Shivrajyabhishek ceremony reenactments at Raigad.

On the second day, the train reached Pune, where tourists visited the famed Lal Mahal, Shivsrushti, and the Kasba Ganpati temple, founded by Rajmata Jijabai. The third day was dedicated to exploring Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Shivaji Maharaj, and the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga.

On the fourth day, the journey moved towards Satara, and on the fifth day, tourists visited Pratapgad Fort, where they learned about its strategic significance and the temple of Tulja Bhavani. Tourists also enjoyed the natural beauty of the Sahyadri mountain ranges.

On the sixth and final day, the train arrived in Kolhapur, where tourists visited the Mahalakshmi Temple and later Panhala Fort, a site central to many historic moments, including Baji Prabhu Deshpande’s legendary sacrifice and the valor of Shiva Kashid. In the evening, the train departed back to Mumbai, concluding the tour.

Throughout the six-day, five-night tour, all arrangements for accommodation, food (tea, breakfast, meals), and local transport were meticulously organized. Tourists received a warm welcome at every destination from local administrations and tourism officials. Expert guides were provided to give tourists in-depth historical insights into the sacred and valorous legacy of Shivaji Maharaj.

The Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train has been praised for enabling new generations to connect with India’s proud past. Tourists shared heartfelt feedback with IRCTC, expressing admiration for the initiative and the unforgettable experience it provided.
