TN CM Awards Police Medals for Anti-Drug Efforts

HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER OF TAMIL NADU ANNOUNCES CHIEF MINISTER’S MEDAL FOR POLICE OFFICERS ON INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING, 2025

The “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Police Medal for Outstanding Work in Combating Drug Production and Illicit Trafficking” has been awarded annually to police officers/personnel since 2023. Following the announcement made by the Hon’ble Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise during the department’s demand discussion in the Legislative Assembly on 22.04.2025, the number of medals has been increased from 5 to 15 (vide G.O.Ms.No.263, Home (SC) Department, dated 06.06.2025).

Based on the recommendations of the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has selected the following officers/personnel for the award:

Highlights of Contributions:

  • Ashish Rawat, IPS: During his tenure in Thanjavur, he registered 243 cases, arrested 373 accused, and seized 1,031 kg of ganja. He mapped major interstate and international drug networks.
  • A. Marimuthu: Seized 733 kg of ganja in multiple cases and 123 kg based on an NCB tip-off; handed over to NCB Madurai.
  • M. Vasanthakumar: Seized nearly 40 kg of ganja and conducted public awareness campaigns on drug abuse.
  • N. Raja Singh: Led operations that seized 92 kg ganja, 25 kg methamphetamine, and 38 kg ketamine. Uncovered links to Sri Lankan drug networks.
  • S. Radha Krishnan: Seized over 6 kg of ganja and 72 grams of methamphetamine.
  • M.C. Ramesh: Seized 288 kg of ganja, arrested 3 major offenders, and seized 5.5 tonnes of gutka in Nazarethpet.
  • K. Babu Suresh Kumar: Registered 95 cases, seized 1,196 kg ganja and hashish oil; detained habitual offenders under the Goondas Act.
  • T. Anbarasi: Seized over 1,000 kg of ganja, thousands of liquor bottles (fake and genuine), and synthetic drugs.
  • S. Ramesh: Provided crucial tech and analytical support for digital drug investigations, helping nab absconding criminals.
  • N. Dhanabalan: Assisted in 55 cases leading to the arrest of 169 accused; seized 161 kg of ganja and 77 grams of methamphetamine.
  • M. Eranian: Stopped the sale of illicit cannabis and liquor, seized 74.8 kg of ganja and a container truck in Nagapattinam.
  • K. Kathiresan: Led seizures of 1,646 kg of ganja and psychotropic drugs in Chinnamanur; arrested 69 drug offenders.
  • C. Gurusamy: Seized 632 kg of ganja in 2024 alone and arrested 100 offenders across multiple operations.
  • M. Suseendran: Cleared major case backlogs in NIB CID Dindigul; secured convictions in 49 cases during 2024.
  • C. Murugan: Seized 3,927 kg of ganja in Madurai City and registered over 100 NDPS cases; led operations against organized crime.

Presentation Ceremony:

These medals will be formally presented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during the Independence Day Celebrations in 2025.
