Champhai District Drug Disposal Committee Destroys Seized Narcotics Worth ₹117 Crore

Champhai : To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Champhai District Drug Disposal Committee today destroyed a total of 117 packets and 34,550 units of various seized narcotics, with an estimated street value of ₹1,17,03,45,500. The event was led by Champhai Deputy Commissioner Mr. Mohammad Aaquib and held at the Champhai District Hospital Complex.

The programme was chaired by Mr. Dennis Vanlallura, Dy. SP of Champhai, who explained that the drugs destroyed had not been disposed of earlier due to pending legal formalities since February.

In his address, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Aaquib stated that Champhai has become a major transit point for drugs, which is a serious concern not only for Mizoram but for India as a whole. He emphasized the growing threat posed by drug trafficking across the country and the importance of educating youth about the dangers of drug use. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders actively involved in the fight against drugs — including the Police, Excise Department, Assam Rifles, Customs, SIB, SB, and media personnel.

Speaking at the event, Champhai District SP Mr. Lokeshwaran R acknowledged the efforts of law enforcement agencies across India in combating drug trafficking and appreciated the commitment of those working tirelessly in Champhai. He pointed out that while catching drug couriers is essential, it is even more crucial to apprehend the drug dealers and kingpins behind the scenes. He noted that a large number of drug carriers have already been arrested.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Addl. SP Mr. Victor Zothansanga, who confirmed that the destroyed narcotics were seized by the Champhai District administration and police.
