Lunglei DC Initiates Joint Inspection of Landslide-Prone Site at Ṭawipui North-II on NH-54

Lunglei : A joint verification team constituted by Lunglei Deputy Commissioner conducted an inspection today of a landslide-prone stretch along National Highway-54 at Ṭawipui North-II. The visit aimed to thoroughly assess the site and finalize a proper action plan.

The joint verification team was led by Sub-Divisional Officer (Sadar), Pi TT Beikhaizi, and included officials from the PWD, I&PR, LA Branch, representatives of NHIDCL (the executing agency for the highway), BRN Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (the contractor), Ṭawipui North-II Village Council, and members of the Sub-Headquarters YMA, Ṭawipui Group YMA, and Ṭawipui N-II Branch YMA.

During the visit, it was discussed that approximately 200 meters of the road—currently affected by water seepage—should be resurfaced (seal-coated) by BRNIPL. It was proposed that this work be monitored by the leaders of the Ṭawipui N-II Branch YMA to ensure proper implementation. Furthermore, due to the dangerous condition of the slope above the road, it was suggested that measures be taken promptly, with guidance from higher authorities.

As part of preliminary mitigation efforts, the Lunglei Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police had earlier proposed the installation of ‘Cautionary Road Signage’, which was erected by Lunglei District Police on June 3, 2025, to alert commuters and ensure public safety on the vulnerable stretch.
