Postponement of daily ₹50 late fee for renewal of fitness certificates for transport vehicles.
Mumbai : The procedure for levying a late fee of Rs. 50 per day for the renewal of fitness certificates for all transport vehicles within 15 years has been suspended until further notice. Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has appealed to all vehicle owners to submit their vehicles to regional and sub-regional transport offices for the renewal of their fitness certificates.
The process to impose a late fee of Rs. 50 per day for the delayed renewal of vehicle fitness certificates was initiated. However, representations were received from autorickshaw-taxi drivers’ associations and various transport vehicle owners’ associations requesting the waiver or exemption of this late fee. The government sympathetically considered these appeals, and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved the proposal. Consequently, a statement was made in the Assembly announcing the postponement of the late fee procedure for all transport vehicles within 15 years until further orders.
Accordingly, by order dated 11th July 2024, the government has suspended the action of levying a late fee of Rs. 50 per day on all transport vehicles under 15 years of age that are due for renewal of their fitness certificates. All vehicle owners should take note of this and submit their vehicles to the regional or sub-regional transport office for the renewal of fitness certificates, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar stated.
