Sikh and Sindhi communities in UP seek strict action against forced religious conversions
Lucknow : Members of the Sikh and Sindhi communities in Uttar Pradesh have expressed strong outrage over reports of illegal religious conversions of non-Muslim girls through deceit and manipulation. Community leaders have urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to identify and take strict action against those involved in such sinister conspiracies. They demanded that those orchestrating religious conversions be awarded the death penalty.
Parbinder Singh, Sikh representative in the Uttar Pradesh Minority Commission and Secretary of Guru Gobind Singh Seva Samiti, said that reports of large-scale illegal conversions in the state are deeply disturbing. Referring to Chhangur Baba, who has been arrested for converting non-Muslim girls on a large scale, he said that such individuals should receive nothing less than capital punishment. “Placing a price on our sisters and daughters for conversion reflects a depraved and repugnant mentality. All involved in such acts must face the harshest punishment,” he said.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Baldev Singh Aulakh, called the deceitful conversion of girls in exchange for money a major conspiracy against the Sikh community. Appealing to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he urged strict action against those colluding with foreign agencies to carry out such acts. “From Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh, the Sikh faith has always stood to protect religion—never to convert,” he emphasized.
Giani Bhagat Singh, Head Granthi of Gurdwara Patel Nagar, condemned the coercion of Sikh followers into conversion using greed, fear, and trickery. He noted that the recent cases reveal a targeted attempt to forcibly convert members of the Sikh community. “This is not merely an attack on religious freedom, it is an insult to Sikh identity. Religious conversion is not a personal matter alone, it is a matter of national security,” he warned. He alleged the existence of an organized and well-funded conspiracy, involving foreign funding and radical organizations, and called for exemplary punishment to those behind it.
The Sindhi community too voiced strong anger over the issue. Sindhi leader Nanak Chand Lakhmani declared that the community would no longer tolerate the conspiracy of forced conversions. “Our daughters are being systematically targeted and trapped in conversion rackets. Innocent youths from the Sindhi community, especially women, are falling prey to this scheme. Such criminals must be sentenced to death,” he demanded.
Kishan Chand Tanwani added, “This is not just an assault on religious freedom, but a deliberate attempt to erase Sindhi culture and identity. Fixing a ‘rate’ for conversions is a vile and inhumane act.”
Expressing their anger, members of the Sindhi community said that commodifying religion and setting prices to lure young women reflects the sick mentality behind this conspiracy. “This is a new kind of terrorism—not fought with bullets, but waged through deception and fraud,” they said. They urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure that such anti-national conversion mafias are not merely jailed—but given capital punishment.
