Women Embrace Self-Employment through National Rural Livelihood Mission – Bihan
Hariali Self-Help Group of Semhar Kachar Transforms Lives in Jashpur
Raipur : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the National Rural Livelihood Mission – Bihan – is bringing about transformative changes in the lives of women across Chhattisgarh. Among the beneficiaries are the women of Jashpur district, who are setting inspiring examples of self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
One such success story comes from the Hariali Self-Help Group in the village of Semhar Kachar, located in Kansabel development block. The group, comprising 11 women, has turned to traditional handicrafts, creating attractive baskets and other artisanal products using chhind kasa (a type of local fiber), thereby strengthening their livelihood.
Group member Mrs. Balamuni Bhagat shared that joining the Bihan scheme opened the door to self-employment. “Earlier, we were confined to household chores, but now, each of us earns around ₹60,000 to ₹70,000 annually,” she said. The initiative has not only made them financially independent but has also boosted their self-confidence.
The women further expressed how the scheme has brought a positive transformation in their lives. Through the support of the group, they have received training, assistance, and access to markets. As a result, their handmade products have gained popularity in local haats, markets, and fairs.
They proudly stated that they are no longer limited to the four walls of their homes and are now establishing their own identities in society. Expressing their gratitude towards Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the district administration, the group members said that government schemes like Bihan are empowering them and helping them become self-sufficient.
