Girl from Kondagaon Makes History by Winning Gold at International Judo Championship in Taiwan
Kondagaon : Ranjita Koreti, a young girl from the Children’s Home (Balika Griha) of Kondagaon under the Chhattisgarh State Child Welfare Council, has created history by winning a gold medal at the international level in the Asian Cadet Judo Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan. Representing India, Ranjita defeated several international competitors to claim top honors in her category.
Her remarkable journey began through the relentless efforts of the District Child Protection Unit, the Department of Women and Child Development, and the institution that nurtured her. Recognizing her physical and mental strength and her keen interest in sports, especially judo, she was provided training with the support of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Her first major success came in the 2021 Open National Judo Tournament held in Chandigarh, where she showcased exceptional performance.
Balancing both academics and sport, Ranjita continued her rigorous training and steadily progressed toward her goal. In January 2023, she was admitted to the Sports Authority of India in Bhopal, where she continued her education alongside professional judo training.

- 2021 Open National Judo Tournament (Chandigarh) – Notable performance in 40 kg category
- 2022 Open National Judo (Bhopal) – Bronze Medal
- 2024 Khelo India National Judo (Kerala) – Silver Medal in 52 kg
- 2024 Khelo India Regional Judo (Nashik, Maharashtra) – Gold Medal in 52 kg
- 2024 Thrissur, Kerala – Gold Medal in 52 kg
- 2024 Open National Judo Championship (Pune, Maharashtra) – Gold Medal in 52 kg, defeating Assam, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Delhi
- Khelo India Youth Games (Patna, Bihar) – Gold Medal in Judo Championship
At the international level, Ranjita secured the 5th position in the Cadet European Cup 2025 held in Georgia from April 4 to April 24. She then participated in the Asian Cadet Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2025 and performed commendably.
Her crowning glory came when she clinched the gold medal in the 52 kg category at the Asian Cadet Championship held from 12 to 15 July 2025 in Taipei, Taiwan. With this victory, Ranjita Koreti has emerged as an international-level judo athlete, bringing pride to the Kondagaon district, the state of Chhattisgarh, and the nation of India.
