CM Fadnavis Directs Timely Release of Subsidy Funds to Mahavitaran
Mumbai : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the state’s Finance Department to expedite the disbursement of subsidy grants to Mahavitaran, the state’s electricity distribution company, to ensure affordable power supply to consumers. He emphasized that with proper planning of electricity generation and expenditure by the Energy Department, power can be distributed at reasonable rates.
Fadnavis was speaking at a review meeting of the Energy Department held at Vidhan Bhavan. Present at the meeting were Minister of State for Unconventional Energy Atul Save, Minister of State for Energy Meghna Bordikar, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Abha Shukla, Principal Secretary to the CM Ashwini Bhide, Principal Secretary (Finance) Saurabh Vijay, Secretary to the CM Dr. Shrikanth Pardeshi, Secretary (Reforms) A. Shaila, and Managing Directors of Mahavitaran (Lokesh Chandra), Mahapareshan (Dr. Sanjeev Kumar), Mahagenco (Dr. Radhakrishnan B.), and MEDA (Omprakash Bakoria).
The Chief Minister instructed the Finance Department to thoroughly examine the detailed proposals submitted by the Energy Department and promptly release the required funds to implement energy-related schemes. He stressed the need to reform rules where necessary to strengthen the financial health of the state’s power distribution system and called for effective recovery of dues.
Fadnavis also said that adequate funding is essential for the successful implementation of key schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme and the PM Kusum Scheme. He urged the Finance Department to consider the Energy Department’s funding requests seriously. “To provide relief to the common electricity consumer, it is necessary to implement pricing measures that are fair and sustainable,” he added.
The Chief Minister reviewed the Energy Department’s funding requirements for the 2025–26 financial year, the current status of outstanding electricity dues from various departments, the status of subsidy distribution, and budget allocations for various schemes. A presentation on the department’s overall status was made by Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Abha Shukla.
