Visible Transformation in Anganwadis: Learning, Values, and Nutrition Through Play

Raipur : Anganwadi centres in Chhattisgarh are undergoing a significant transformation, evolving into vibrant hubs of education, nutrition, values, and health for children. Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Lakshmi Rajwade stated, “The state government aims to develop Anganwadis as innovation-driven child development centres—where childhood is nurtured and futures are fortified.”

Moving beyond their traditional roles, most Anganwadis in the state are now being developed as pre-school play and learning spaces. Here, children are learning hygiene practices, language skills, and moral values through stories, pictures, folk songs, and engaging activities. A shining example is the Boirkachhara Anganwadi Centre in Bemetara district, which has emerged as a model of excellence. The centre fosters children’s physical, intellectual, social, and creative development in a well-planned manner. Innovative tools like educational wall paintings, children’s rhymes, a “My Birthday” calendar, and personalized “carry bags” are enhancing children’s confidence and social skills.

Anganwadis are also empowering adolescent girls by imparting vital knowledge on menstrual hygiene, self-defence, nutrition, and self-reliance. Pregnant women are being educated on breastfeeding, newborn care, and balanced diets. Under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme, nutritious food such as leafy greens, moringa leaf powder, fruits, roti-sabzi, and dal-rice is being provided to children and women alike.

According to the District Programme Officer of Bemetara, Boirkachhara centre is actively implementing several key government schemes including the Mahatari Vandan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Mukhyamantri Bal Sandarbh Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and the Mahila Saksham Kosh. The credit for this success goes to Anganwadi worker Mrs. Pyari Dhruv and her assistant, whose dedication and creative approach have turned the centre into a source of inspiration for others.

Minister Rajwade further stated, “All Anganwadi centres across the state will be developed as integrated hubs of education, nutrition, and values so that every child becomes empowered, educated, and healthy.” Through these concerted efforts, Chhattisgarh’s Anganwadis are now laying the foundation for a brighter future—ensuring a balanced blend of nutrition, learning, and cultural values.
