Self-Help Group Women Achieve Self-Reliance Through Livelihood Activities

Over 1.24 Lakh Women Engaged in Self-Help Groups Across Jashpur District

Raipur : Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has directed that women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) be empowered through self-employment to achieve self-reliance. In alignment with this vision, under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), 11,559 SHGs have been formed across all development blocks in Jashpur district. These groups collectively include 1,24,117 women members who are now actively engaged in various livelihood-based activities, moving toward economic independence.

According to information from the department, these SHGs have been organized through 703 village organizations and 32 cluster-level federations. Focused efforts are being made to enhance the income of SHG members on a sustained basis.

Women are being trained and encouraged to adopt sustainable agricultural practices, such as seed treatment, use of natural fertilizers, liquid and solid organic manure (Jeevamrit), bio-pesticides like Brahmastra and Neemastra. In addition to agriculture, women are involved in livestock rearing, fish farming, running grocery stores, brick-making, and other income-generating activities to further enhance their earnings.

SHG members are also being connected to various government schemes from departments like agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, sericulture, and the employment guarantee scheme to ensure steady income generation.

Under NRLM, community funds are being provided to SHGs in the form of loans, while banks are also offering bank linkage and Mudra loans, making adequate funds available to support their livelihood ventures. These initiatives are significantly contributing to the growing financial independence and self-sufficiency of SHG women in the region.
