Chirayu Scheme Becomes a Boon for Pahadi Korwas

Free Treatment for Children in Top Private Hospitals Across India

Raipur : The Chirayu Scheme has emerged as a lifeline for children, especially those from economically weak families who cannot afford treatment in private hospitals located in distant cities. In the tribal-dominated Jashpur district, home to many Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) like the Pahadi Korwa community, this scheme has become a source of hope and support. Children such as Anjali Bai, Anshika, and Ritesh, who were battling serious heart conditions or other illnesses, have found new life thanks to Chirayu.

Anjali Bai, born in the remote village of Sonkyari in Manora block of Jashpur and belonging to the Pahadi Korwa tribe, was diagnosed with a hole in her heart. Her father Nanhu Ram, a daily wage laborer, was devastated upon learning of her condition and didn’t know how to proceed. Initial tests at the local health center led to further screening by the Chirayu team, confirming her diagnosis. She was then taken to a leading private hospital in Raipur, where she underwent a successful surgery and has now fully recovered.

Several other children from poor families in the district have similarly benefited from the scheme. Ritesh, the son of Sudarshan Chauhan from Puranitoli, Jashpur, was also found to have a hole in his heart. His father, who sustains the family through labor work, could not afford private hospital expenses. He took his son to the district hospital, where doctors informed him about the Chirayu Scheme. Ritesh was referred to Raipur, where he received free treatment and surgery, and is now healthy.

In another case, Anshika, daughter of Kritibai and Dhaneshwar Yadav from Behratoli village in Kunkuri block, received initial treatment at Raipur Medical College, Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, and AIIMS Raipur. Later, she underwent heart surgery at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, which cost ₹14.5 lakh. This entire cost was fully covered under the Chirayu Scheme.

Other children, including 2-year-old Anvi Bai, 9-year-old Anant Nayak, and 9-year-old Kumar Nayak, all suffering from congenital heart diseases, also received successful treatment at Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai, under the scheme.

Additionally, children like Novel Bhagat from Chirbagicha and Garvit Singh from BTI Para, who were born with cleft lips and palates, received free corrective surgeries at private hospitals in Raipur under Chirayu.

It is important to note that under the Chirayu Scheme, comprehensive health screenings are conducted at anganwadi centers and schools. If any of the 44 identified health conditions or deformities are diagnosed, the children are provided free treatment under the scheme. If needed, they are referred to reputed hospitals across the country for advanced care.

This initiative continues to transform lives and offer a second chance to children in tribal and backward areas, proving to be a true blessing for families in need.
