UP setting new benchmarks in law and order: CM Yogi

Gorakhpur : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Thursday, said that Uttar Pradesh, once known for riots and criminal rule, has transformed into a model of law and order. Speaking at the inauguration of an 11-storey barrack tower and a 30-bed hospital at the 26th Battalion PAC campus, he remarked that the state is now riot-free, crime-free, and moving forward with a new identity of discipline and celebration. “No outsider can mock or question Uttar Pradesh’s law and order anymore,” he asserted.

He added that youth from UP are now treated with respect wherever they go, unlike eight years ago when they struggled to even find accommodation due to the state’s negative image. Today, overcoming that dark past, the new Uttar Pradesh of a new India has emerged as a shining example of law and order.

The Chief Minister underscored the vital role of the civil police in maintaining internal security and law and order, while the army safeguards the nation against external threats. He noted that just eight years ago, peace in Uttar Pradesh seemed like a distant dream, with the police force struggling due to acute manpower shortages and poor infrastructure.

“Back then, lakhs of police posts remained vacant, but due to lack of intent, the previous governments failed to carry out transparent recruitment processes. Frequent irregularities, dishonesty, and corruption led to court-imposed stays, leaving young aspirants disillusioned and directionless,” he added.

Highlighting the transparent recruitment process under his government, the CM said that over the past eight years, 2.16 lakh personnel have been recruited into the Uttar Pradesh Police without any scope for favoritism or corruption. This includes the recent recruitment of 60,244 police personnel — the largest police recruitment drive in the world.

The Chief Minister further noted that eight years ago, the state had the capacity to train only 3,000 police personnel at a time. Today, that capacity has expanded significantly, with over 60,000 trainees undergoing training simultaneously at 112 police training centers across Uttar Pradesh.

CM Yogi recalled how, just two months after taking office for the first time, he had witnessed the poor state of infrastructure during an inspection of the Lucknow Police Lines. At the time, there was a serious lack of basic facilities for police personnel. Taking note of this, he had directed officials to improve infrastructure across all police stations, police lines, and PAC battalions.

“Today, I am pleased to see significant improvements in infrastructure at every police station, police line, and PAC battalion in Uttar Pradesh. In some districts, the tallest structures may appear to be towers, but they are, in fact, modern, well-equipped barracks built for our police personnel.” The Chief Minister emphasized that while the government is strengthening infrastructure, it is also conducting the police recruitment process with complete transparency.

Speaking to the new police recruits, CM Yogi highlighted the importance of rigorous training. “The more sweat shed in training, the less blood will be shed in the field,” he said. He advised the trainees to embrace the training with full honesty and commitment. He instructed them to learn new laws, technology, cybercrime techniques, digital arrest protocols, and the provisions of Mission Shakti with full concentration, as these would prove invaluable on the field.

He also encouraged recruits to engage in meaningful voluntary activities(shramdan) during training — something that could remain a lasting memory throughout their careers.

In his address, the CM described the rising number of road accident fatalities as a serious concern and emphasized that increased awareness can help reduce such incidents. He mentioned that every year, between 20,000 to 22,000 people lose their lives in road accidents, with many cases leading to the tragic loss of entire families.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of educating the public—particularly school children—about the dangers of overspeeding, accident-prone black spots, and traffic regulations, highlighting that such awareness initiatives can play a crucial role in saving lives.

At the inauguration ceremony held at the PAC campus, Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan Shukla praised the Yogi Adityanath government for its strong focus on law and order. He stated that consistent efforts to boost police morale and provide modern resources have earned Uttar Pradesh a reputation for effective policing not just within the country, but internationally as well.

ADG PAC Dr. Ramkrishna Swarnkar extended a warm welcome to CM Yogi and provided detailed information about the newly inaugurated barrack tower and hospital. He informed that multi-storey barracks are being constructed in other battalions as well.

Dr. Swarnkar mentioned that for the first time in Uttar Pradesh, a dedicated women battalion is being formed under the guidance of the Chief Minister, along with the construction of its battalion buildings. The work is currently underway in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Budaun. He further added that the UP Police recruitment has reached record numbers during CM Yogi’s tenure, crediting the Chief Minister’s leadership for this achievement.

The event was graced by several dignitaries including Mayor Dr. Manglesh Srivastava, BJP State Vice President and MLC Dr. Dharmendra Singh, MLAs Shriram Chauhan, Rajesh Tripathi, Vipin Singh, Mahendra Pal Singh, Dr. Vimlesh Paswan, Pradeep Shukla, Sarwan Nishad, State Women Commission Vice President Charu Chaudhary, ADG Gorakhpur Zone Ashok Mutha Jain, IG PAC Central Zone Preetinder Singh, DIG Gorakhpur Range S. Chanappa, Commandant-in-Charge of 26th PAC Battalion Niharika Sharma, BJP District President Janardan Tiwari, and former Metropolitan President Rajesh Gupta.

Before the formal ceremony began, CM Yogi inspected the newly constructed barrack tower at the PAC campus. He reviewed the arrangements and facilities available within the tower. Following this, the Chief Minister also visited the newly built hospital located within the campus. Upon his arrival at the venue, CM Yogi was welcomed by the PAC band with ceremonial honors.
