Uttarakhand CM Participates in Felicitation Ceremony for Implementation of Uniform Civil Code
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in a felicitation ceremony held at the Chief Sevak Sadan in the Chief Minister’s residence, to mark the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand.
During the ceremony, CM Dhami remarked that the honour being conferred was truly an honour for the people of Uttarakhand. He emphasized that it was with the blessings and support of the citizens that the long-cherished dream of implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state had become a reality. He added that by enacting the UCC, the state government has paid a genuine tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The Chief Minister stated that with the enforcement of UCC, all citizens in Uttarakhand now enjoy equal rights under a common legal framework. The Code has played a key role in eliminating discrimination in society and ensuring equal treatment for all.
Highlighting the progressive provisions of the UCC, he noted that women’s rights have been particularly safeguarded. The mandatory registration of live-in relationships has enhanced the safety and protection of women, especially sisters and daughters. CM Dhami expressed confidence that this legal reform, beginning in Uttarakhand, will eventually spread across the entire nation.
He further stated that the government’s ideology is deeply rooted in values such as social harmony, cultural awareness, and national unity. Referring to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, he noted the PM’s initiative to observe 26th November as Constitution Day and to develop key sites associated with Babasaheb Ambedkar as “Panch Teerth” or five sacred pilgrimage sites of national consciousness.
The Chief Minister also highlighted other strong legislative measures taken by the state government, including a stringent anti-riot law, an anti-conversion law, and the initiation of Operation Kalnemi. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to preserving the state’s demographic composition under all circumstances.
Notable attendees at the ceremony included former Governor and former Chief Minister Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Sadhvi Renuka, Swami Niranjan Chaitanya Maharaj, Vice-Chairman of the State Disaster Management Advisory Committee Shri Vinay Ruhela, MLA Shri Suresh Gadiya, and MLA from Safipur (Unnao, Uttar Pradesh) Shri Bamba Lal Diwakar, among others.
